Yeah, I’m tired as hell, but it’s worth it. The Cubs took the first game against the Padres on Monday night.
How am I going to keep this up for the next couple nights? Damn, I’m getting old. One West Coast game and I’m already feeling it. The Cubs were feeling it last night. Who else but Castellanos to kick things off with a 2 run bomb. This guy. Not sure what will happen this offseason, but this guy has to be part of the plan going forward, doesn’t he? He absolutely unloaded on that one last night, out deep to center field. Schwarbino went deep in this one too. But the star of the show last night was rookie Nico Hoerner.
He’s a kid for God’s sake. 22 years old. The first draft pick from 2018 to play in the majors. Trying to fill in for the NL MVP runner up Javy Baez in the middle of a pennant race where the Cubs seem to be fading. No pressure kid. Before he even got to bat, he made a nice play in the field; made a couple of those. Hit in his first MLB at bat. Tripled down the left field line. 3 hits all day, 2 runs scored, 4 RBIs. Not too shabby for a debut. Encore performance needed from now through November.

He did do well in Spring Training, but he didn’t even have 1 AB in AAA. Glad to see it for sure, now he only needs to keep this up. Again, no pressure kid. You set that bar pretty damn high. One thing that Len mentioned I did like; he makes contact. You need that from time to time; the Cubs need that from time to time. How many times were there if they just put the ball in play it would equal a run? Instead, they strike out. I’m sure there’s a way to pull that info. Put the ball in play and good things may happen… at least gives you a better chance.
With the win, the Cubs pull within 4 games of the Cards. Would be great if the Rockies could beat the Cards a couple games this week… There we go again though; relying on another team to handle your business. We’ll get our chance though. 7 games remaining against them. If we could be within 3 games when we begin that, 5-2 would tie us; you can’t expect more than 5-2. 5-2 is a stretch at this point considering the way both teams are playing, I’m just saying.
I need to get a nap or something. Maybe I’ll try to sneak in 15-20 minutes somewhere; that’s all I need… a little boost. Give me that second wind for another matchup in San Diego on Tuesday night. I can do it. I hope the Cubs can do it again too. Go Cubs!
