They’re baaack. Da Bears are ready to rock for the 2016 season. First on tap, a week one match up in Houston against the Texans. How are you feeling?
For everybody standing on the ledge, come on in to watch the first game that actually counts. Don’t talk to me about preseason; that’s over now… and guess what, that 1-3 record has absolutely no impact on the regular season. Every team is undefeated come Week 1; half will leave undefeated. How will the Bears leave Houston?
I’m starting back up with the weekly previews of each Bears game; I will continue with the game recaps after each game. I will also make final score, against the spread, & ace in the hole predictions; feel free to make the same. Week 1 here we come.
First thing on the menu is to get my son a new Bears jersey; he’s requesting Walter Payton. I need to get that ordered, but in the mean time, I need to get him a new shirt to wear on Sundays until the jersey arrives. He’s outgrown all his stuff from last year. I’ll be starting up my jersey rotation come this Sunday; think I’ll start with Urlacher…. or Butkus? I’ll save my Payton jersey until my son gets his. OK, that’s out of the way… now onto the game.
It looks like 6 is the consensus, up from the opening line of 4.5. Houston is favored by six; I’m liking the dog. What has Houston ever done? I guess you could say what have the Bears ever done, outside of Super Bowl XX, all the NFL championships before the Super Bowl, being one of the original franchises in the NFL. I guess I have an answer for that question pointed at the Bears, but… what have you done for me lately? That’s a better question.
The answer is nothing. No playoffs for 6 years; there’s that number again. And oh yeah, that number 6 that will have the ball in his hands every offensive snap, besides the wildcat formation… is that still around? With Cutler at the helm, it hasn’t been good. Of course it’s not ONLY about him. How’s the supporting cast look this year? Questionable I guess.
Forte is gone. He was the bread winner on offense for the past however many years. Now it’s Langford time; I don’t feel too bad about that. It would have been nice to have a 1-2 punch with Forte, but if Langford can catch like Forte, and block like him… well, most of the time, then I think we have another 3 down back. I’m really hoping for that since I drafted him on my fantasy football team, but that’s secondary. He needs to have a big year for the Bears to do well. Alshon and Kevin at the WRs seem like a pretty good proposition. Health is the main concern, considering White missed all of last year, and Jeffery is out every other week seemingly with a soft tissue injury… please hold the jokes. The line is OK? Grasu out for the year took some depth away, and forced some more shifting, as did the recent signing of the Packer reject Josh Sitton. He’s supposed to be great; then why did the Packers cut him? I hope he is great. We know Long is great, and he’ll be here another 4 years after signing an extension. How many points will the offense put up per game? How many will they need to based on our defense?

The defense should be much improved… OK, maybe let’s just start with improved. I believe in Fangio. He has more weapons, at least in the front seven, so that should mean a better defense right? It’s not that complicated, is it? Well, we’ll see. Deandre Hopkins is the first test. Let him get 200 yards and 2 TDs… as long as the Texans still lose. He is my #1 WR in fantasy football… again, secondary. On to predictions…
Final Score Prediction: Bears 28 Texans 20
Yep, Mr. Homer is back. I don’t care. Do you really think I’m going to pick against the Bears in week 1 against the Texans? If you want to see that, go read all the papers, and listen to the media. We’ll see who turns out to be right.
Ace in the Hole: Jeremy Langford 150 total yards and 2 TDs
This is where Matt Forte lived; here’s the new tenant… hopefully. It certainly will NOT be Connor Barth.
So let’s get this season started on the right foot. NFL football is back. Our Bears are back. You know what time it is. BEAR DOWN!!!
