September 7, 2023: The Return of the King

Thursday night rolled around, and the 2023-2024 NFL season began; it was The Return of the King.

No, I’m not talking about Patrick Mahomes and the defending Super Bowl champions the Kansas City Chiefs. I’m talking about the NFL. Look, my first love is baseball, and with MJ and the Bulls in my youth basketball is awesome, but just being real… when it comes to the #1 most popular sport… it’s football… the real football not soccer. Yeah, yeah, soccer is the king across the world, but not here; soccer is boring btw sorry not sorry. It’s NFL football dammit! What a great return it was.

Can’t really be that happy about one of our divisional rivals getting the jump on us, but… when you have money on them on the ML and with the pts, well, let’s just say I liked them for tonight. Yes, after rolling over the waterfall with my baseball bets recently, it was a sight for sore eyes to see both of my bets come in on the very first game of the NFL season; more to come on all that later. Don’t worry Chiefs fans… you have all the excuses you need. Super Bowl hangover, no Kelce, DT holding out, Toney’s dropped passes, but let me tell you… I don’t think the Chiefs are going to be as good this year. With Mahomes there’s always a chance, but… it may be another team coming out of the AFC this year.

The second part of that thought… the one where the Chiefs aren’t really that good, is that, because of this, the Lions victory isn’t that impressive. Sure, I think the Lions are going to win the division, but… they ain’t so bad. Honestly, other than the Packers, who will be exposed on Sunday, this division is up for grabs. If the Bears can get their shit together… It’s exciting for sure. But yeah, the Lions… they earned some love from me last year when they knocked out the Packers when they had nothing to play for, Rodgers last game with them btw, and then followed that performance up with two cashed tickets… I’m a Bears fan first and foremost… there are no second favorites, but… as far as weekly favorites go… I guess I can say any team I’m betting on that wins money for me… so I guess for today, it’s Detroit. Tomorrow, I hope they go back to sucking, unless I bet on them again that is…

With fantasy football, squares, confidence pools, elimination picks, and Draft Kings… that’s a whole lot of stuff to keep you interested in the NFL. With only 17 regular season games, compared to 82 in hockey and basketball and 162 in baseball, there’s a reason why guys clear their calendars on Sunday for the next 5 months. Long gone are the days when I was able to watch every NFL game, but I’ll tell you this: I won’t miss a Bears game if I have anything to say about it, although if my wife says… haha… we’re going to fight! Bring it on! Haha…

Yes, respect the king… the NFL is back, act accordingly, and may all of your fantasy teams do well, your squares win, your picks come in, and your bets cash. This is going to be a great year… we’ve only just begun. Sunday is next!!!
