The first day of NFL football; somebody actually had to remind me about that. Excuse me if I haven’t been counting down the minutes to the start of the season. I have my reasons…
Let’s start with the matchup itself. In one corner, you have the cheaters of the NFL. The guys who made me turn off the super bowl because I knew how it would end. Yeah, yeah…Brady and belicheat…so what? They make me sick. And now the Red Sox are cheating??? It must be a Boston thing.
In the other corner, is a crappy team led by a crappy QB; hey, I’ve seen this every Sunday with the Bears over the last number of years. I know; the Chiefs aren’t that bad, but unless they’re marching out Okoye and Word in that backfield, or Lewis and Cherry in the secondary, or Derrick Thomas coming around the corner, count me out.
What about fantasy? I have no Patriots or Chiefs on my team. The guy I’m playing has the Pats kicker. Next question?
I can blame the Cubs too. At this point, in the bottom of the 8th inning, I haven’t even flipped to the game. It’s been sitting on the Cubs all night. And yeah, they’re kicking ass, working towards that third straight postseason berth. How can I truly be into football until the Cubs are done playing. It wasn’t always like this.
I guess at the end of the day, I blame the Bears. They’ve sucked the life out of me this decade. That coach and fan killer at the helm; it’s been a rough go. And now, finally, he’s gone; that is great. Yet, now, we have to wait to see our guy play QB? Sure, I’d much rather watch Glennon at QB over Cutler, but why do I still feel like we’re being cheated?

Patience they say. I think I’ve given about all the patience I got to them. That patience did pay off for the Cubs; 40 years of it was cashed in last year, and it was glorious. I only had to wait about 9 years to feel the glory of a Super Bowl champion, sorry if I thought we’d have another by now. But no, my 32nd year of patience is about to start with Da Bears. Ready to cash that in any day now boys…
If you read my season preview, both parts, you know I’m trying to keep it positive. That feeling stems from the belief that we will see Trubisky sooner rather than later. To think that we won’t see him all year, is to think that we will watch the Bears flush another season down the toilet. Say it ain’t so Pace.
It is him making that decision at the end of the day, yes? I think if it were up to Fox, regardless of what he says in his confusing responses, Mitch would be in. Fox may not be here to see Mitch start next year; he may be riding that wave right down the toilet. But I hold out hope…
And then I see the Bears name Glennon a captain…what a joke. Don’t force feed us this shit. Ok, maybe I’m being unfair to Mike, but it’s only because I’m on my 41st year without a franchise QB. To think we have one, and he’s sitting in a bubble on the sidelines….woo hoo, he was named backup. Big fricking deal.
I said I would be talking about this until it happens. I almost feel like I’ll remain in my football funk until it does. I opened a few shades when Cutler left; I’d like to welcome that light back in 100%. I want to love football again, across the board. I want to see my Bears back in the playoff mix. But for now, week 1 game preview next. Bear Down!

Football funk is right. Usually, that does not influence the start of the season since hope springs eternal, but realistically, what are the Bears chances this year? Another missed playoffs with more changes to come in the offseason? Maybe the time is now. To hell with being patient and careful. Unless Pace is taking a book from Theo’s library, I think the Bears need to see what they have with MTru. I think it is going to happen this year, but I hope it will not be too late. This franchise needs some excitement, the old proverbial shot-in-the-arm. The NFL is not the same with the Bears sucking. Chicago deserves some good football as well as a franchise QB. Maybe MTru is that guy? How long do we have to wait to find out? As long as the Cubs are in it this year again, the Bears will be taking a back seat. I think progress can and will be made this year, but how far will that span with Glennon at the helm and the franchise qb on the bench? Put it all together and see what happens. I’m waiting. We are waiting. BEAR DOWN!!!
