It’s about that time… no more talking… time to let your play do the talking. Week 1 of the NFL season is upon us, and I don’t know about you, but as a Bears fan, I’m ready to see our boys shut everybody up.
I know, I know… I’m not big on “receipts”, or trying to prove people wrong, but enough is enough, no? How many dumb asses will predict the Bears to be one of the worst teams in the league? I don’t recall it being this bad before, with all the negative predictions. I remember negative predictions when it was warranted; the Bears have certainly had worse teams over the years than the one we’re going to see run out there this Sunday vs the Niners. I just don’t see it. I don’t think this season is going to be a train wreck. I really don’t.
And yes, I know, I’m a very optimistic person; I will always have hope in my teams, even when it may be a pipe dream. Now I’m not saying Super Bowl bound, although I will always wish for that; I’m just saying they will be competitive this year. Fields will take a step; if he doesn’t, we’re in a really bad place. The offensive line will be better; they can’t be worse, can they? Our RBs are solid; all this talk about no weapons, well, somebody tell Montgomery and Herbert that. Kmet will take a step; certainly not as important as Justin getting better, but have to imagine Cole will show some improvement. The WRs… well, sorry, but, I do think Mooney is a good wide out; maybe he’s a WR2 on most other teams, but hey, he’s shown some promise. The rest of the WRs… if that step Fields takes is a substantial one, he will make these guys better. 50/50 shot on that in Year 2, but the possibility does exist.
Defensively… no Hicks, no Mack… who both missed a bunch of games anyways. Roquan is back; Quinn is still around. Jaylon Johnson is a solid CB. The rookies will have to contribute in the secondary for us to be a really good defense, but come on… you’re telling me the Bears don’t have at least an average-above average D? Solid D and running game have been staples before; that’s enough to be decent. Throw in a young developing QB, who we’re expecting/hoping to be a franchise type guy… yeah, haven’t said that many times, or maybe we have, but they haven’t panned out… We need Fields to be the guy, period, for a chance at the playoffs or Super Bowl in the near future.
And why are the playoffs out of the question, for any team, forget just the Bears. From year to year, the NFL has the teams that are always there, and then the other half of the playoff participants who change each year. Why can’t that be us? OK, let me just listen to my own words I’m typing here… no more talking.
The next time you’ll here from me about the Bears will be Friday, with the game preview. Spoiler alert: I know I’ve held out this long from getting a gambling account, but man… that +7 is looking really good… Bear Down!!!
