The other day my son called me a hater, after I was downplaying Kobe’s career. Let’s be honest though; after his death, now all of a sudden, he’s one of the best of all time… I mean, sorry for his untimely passing; horrible for him and his daughter, but… that doesn’t automatically cause you to leapfrog a bunch of people to be #2 on the all time NBA list… sorry. I didn’t particularly understand why the NBA chose to retire Bill Russell’s number throughout the league either. He was great and all… a ton of rings on those old Celtic teams; a giant in his times, certainly on the NBA all time list no doubt, but… retire his # across the NBA… really? That’s some BS, sorry. If there is anyone that the NBA should bestow that honor on, it’s Michael Jordan… nobody else. Maybe MJ has to die first, for something like that to happen… who knows. There was talk of the Air Jordan logo replacing the NBA logo at some point; probably would be smart for the NBA. Yet, I’m sure that logo is doing just fine without any assist from the NBA… just facts man. On the flip side of that whole retiring 23 across the league, is the fact that nobody can choose that # to honor him… to be like him. It eliminates part of the whole fun of the brilliant marketing campaign “Be Like Mike”… That’s why LeBron chose it right? Anybody who chose 23 wanted to be like Mike, right? Unless you’re Kobe, and pick “one over Jordan” with 24… maybe he should have chose 22…
Hey, I just call it like I see it. I have my opinions… they’re mine, not yours. You don’t have to like it, just like I don’t have to agree with your BS opinions. If there’s one area where I have very strong opinions, it’s in sports… so if that’s the definition of a hater, then yes, I very much am a hater. Guess it’s kind of like when I saw Dylan Cease blow his no hitter with 2 outs in the 9th. On one side, I love seeing no hitters… any time there is one close, I follow it; I get excited, wanting to see history. I’d love to be in attendance for one of those… bucket list… probably will never happen though… the odds of that… On the other side though, seeing him, ex-Cub, playing with our crosstown brethren, agonizing on the mound after coming up one out short of history… yeah, a little part of me was happy; screw him and screw the Sox. I started watching them a bit more lately because I want to see them go down in flames; I don’t watch them when they’re winning. What does that say?
My hate was on full blast this weekend with the Cubs in St. Louis. To think we thought about driving down there to see them play… that would have been stupid. Honestly, I tried to NOT watch the Cubs; glad I didn’t. Seeing the Cardinals beat up on us would have just made me more mad about this whole F-ing season. I wish it were over already. There’s nothing left honestly. Seeing this season for the Cubs… I guess that just adds to my whole “hater” mood… everything sucks right now, and I don’t mind sharing it… Speaking about hate… I think about the Hate Files… it’s been a while…
