September 29, 2018: That Sweet Lefty Shot

posted in: Bulls | 0

I asked the question, but the Bulls team name was already taken.  We had to roll with the Timberwolves again, which is fine by me.  This will be my son’s second year playing basketball.   He’s sprouted over the summer, and is obviously another year stronger.  I was thinking he should do pretty well this year.  I was hoping…

Last year was tough for him and our team.  With really only one kid that could make buckets consistently, and by consistent I mean 1-2 per game, we didn’t win a game all year.  My son made 2 buckets all year…maybe 3.  Surely we would be better this year.

We were there to watch most of the first game.  It was 4-0 at the half.  I think the final ended up being 8-8…something like that.  I wish we could score 8 points in a game.

From the early looks of it, from the first two weeks of practice, my son would be the best player on the team.  There are a couple other kids who can make some buckets, so that’s positive.   We picked up our new shirts for the year, and then it was game time.  Timberwolves vs Bucks.

Last week at practice my son hit 15 shots in a row; no BS.  He got mad when he missed one.  I hoped he would have the confidence to shoot with a defender on him.  First shot up, first shot in!  And away we go!

He kept shooting…and kept making them.  This was awesome!!!  With that sweet lefty shot, my son was doing work.  He ended up with 10 points!!!  That’s more than he scored all last year.  Our team ended up with 12 points, which most weeks would mean a victory.

Yeah, of course…we score more points than we did all last year, but we run into a team draining shots too.  16-12 was the final.  My son was upset; tears were shed.  I told the whole team what a great game we played; it was only the first game of the season.  I told my son that there was no reason to cry; I was so proud of him.  Ten fricking points out of the gate!  Yes, we’ve only just begun.

I remember crying after losing games when I was a kid.  I can definitely relate.  Again, we’ve only just begun.  He was mad when I sat him down the whole 2nd quarter.  I have to rotate everybody in the lineup, and figured that was the best time to rest him.  He may have got 16 points.  Haha.  I’m going to have to keep track of his stats.  I can’t wait to see how he does, and how we do the rest of the season.  Going to try to get a practice night for us.

Next week, an early 9am start time.  We’ll be ready.  Go Timberwolves!

Welcome to season 2 tpups! Glad to hear my nephew dropped a 10 spot in the first game. What an improvement from last year only 1 game in. The team still got the L so the tears are understandable. Glad he was still upset they lost even though he did so well. 10 points a game sounds good and should equal some Ws to come. Keep practicing and working hard…it will pay off! GO Tpups!
