I missed both the Wednesday and Thursday Cubs Pirates games this week because I was up in the air. It was a quick trip down to Atlanta that was the cause. What would I miss?
I actually did see a quick piece of the game Wednesday, when Schwarby drew the bases loaded walk. The Brewers Cardinals game was on TV on the plane, and they popped up a split screen. Cubs were winning comfortably. I saw that Atlanta native Jason Heyward had kicked off the scoring for the a Cubs that game with a two run bomb. Finally, we’ll beat these pesky Pirates.
As I got to the hotel, I got a text from my brother: “un F-ing believable”. Well, this can’t be good. Did they blow his game? Thankfully, they only allowed the Pirates to tie it up, so we still had a chance. He told me about the fan down the first base line who prevented Rizzo from catching a pop up. We wouldn’t hear the end of that one if the Cubs were to lose. But they pulled it out. Almora, where the hell has he been, came through with the walk off base hit in the 10th. Whew!

Was actually thinking about heading down there to see the Cubs this year; we’ll make it eventually. Who knew the Braves would be in the playoffs this year? Didn’t see much Braves stuff though…it was pretty much all Falcons. From the time I got in the airport to the job down there, lots of Falcons love. They made me take a picture in front of the red and black balloon display. I told them I didn’t have a problem with them, as long as they weren’t playing the Bears. I told them I felt for them from that Super Bowl. One girl complained about losing to the Saints the week before; she says she hates them. I can relate. I told them my fantasy QB is Ryan, because he owes me from last year. He carried me last week, just like their rookie Falcon receiver I decided to start for the first time. Falcons are cool with me.
Was able to listen to the Cubs game on the radio after my wife and son picked my up Thursday night. It was big to come back and split that series to maintain a one game lead. 3 games to play to decide the division.
But before we get to that, let’s check in on my son’s current sports season. His first basketball game is next.

Cubs needed the win the last 2 and did. Kept the 1 game lead with 3 to go. Can the Cubs sWeep the red turds, deny them from the playoffs, and celebrate another nl division in front of them? I sure hope so. Hopefully, the Detroit tigers can help us out and win a game or 2 from the brewcrew. Exciting weekend to come!
As for Atlanta, I have nothing against them. I have always liked the braves and their tomahawk chops. I’m pretty sure I predicted that they would make the playoffs this year. Would have to look back at the old blog. The falcons are ok, too. I like Matt Ryan and Julio is my wide receiver every year for fantasy…just need some td’s from him. In either case, as long as Atlanta isn’t playing Chicago, I’m good with them.
GO CUBS GO!!!
