September 27, 2024: Week 4 Preview Rams at Bears

posted in: Bears | 0

OK, I’m not happy about this latest Bears loss. If you caught me after the Texans loss, whatever… chalk it up. I chalked it up relying on a W against the Colts; that didn’t happen. And now, the Bears, with another loss this week vs the Rams, are staring at a 1-3 start… in the EASY part of their schedule. That would not be great. To say this game is a MUST WIN may be a bit much, but… it’s super important, no doubt.

We’re getting the Rams in a battered state; that didn’t keep them from coming back vs the 49ers last week. Is McVay really that good of a coach? Well, looks like it, and that would mean an easy checkmark on the Rams side of the ledger in the category of coaching. Our coaching staff is already on the hot seat 3 games into the year. The timeouts, the challenges, the play calls… anything NOT related to our defense has been shoddy at best. Yeah, our defense… Our defense has been outstanding; they are trying to carry us. With no Puka or Kupp this weekend playing for the Rams, certainly the advantage in that matchup goes to the Bears. What will happen in that other key matchup, our offense against the Rams defense, will determine the winner of this game. Aaron Donald retired; let’s start there. I don’t know how high up you want to rank him on the all-time defender list, but… he was pretty good. Have the Rams made up for his absence? They’ve lost a close one in Detroit to start the season, then got their doors blown off by the Cardinals… the Cardinals!!! Yes, they did come back to beat the defending NFC Champions, but you know what they say about those division games; they know each other really well AND the 49ers were pretty banged up themselves. I think this week sets up pretty well for the Bears.

The Rams had to play with urgency last week to avoid an 0-3 start. The Bears need to play with that same urgency to avoid a 1-3 start. Last week, we saw some good signs with Caleb. Sure, he threw the ball a bit too much for my liking for a rookie, which eventually helped equal that L; we do have to run the ball. Did we try enough last week? Is our running game really that bad? I hear Roschon will get some more looks this week; I like that idea. Will it be enough to provide this offense some balance, and give Caleb a little less quantity, but a lot more quality opportunities to do some damage through the air? Will Keenan be back?

Final Score Prediction: Bears 35 Rams 20

Ace in the Hole: Roschon Johnson 2 TDs

Yeah, mixing it up this week. Just as the Bears offensive play calling, I feel like I’ve been putting a bit too much pressure on the kid in my own head, wanting to see him come in and shine immediately. Just as I write about, I need to have some patience too. We have the outstanding defense which is any QBs best friend; now we need our running attack to stand up and be heard from. Couple good runs= better play action opportunities= some down the field shots= TDs? I like that math. Bear Down!!!
