September 26, 2024: Wishing Your Ex Well

posted in: Bears | 0

How do you feel about Justin Fields helping the Steelers go 3-0 thus far this season? I’m fine with it. Frankly, I don’t really care. Last time I checked, Justin Fields isn’t wearing a Chicago Bears uniform. The QB that I am worried about, is the one that is playing for MY team. Any other QB, well, it’s just really not that important.

Sure, I know… Justin Fields played QB for the Bears. There was the decision made this past offseason to go with Caleb Williams at the #1 overall pick. I would have been fine with giving Justin another chance; I’m fine with the route we did choose. I’m riding with anybody that plays QB for the Bears; I had to root for Cutler for a long time… Now that Justin has moved on, I wished him well. Yeah, part of me doesn’t want him to be a HOF QB now that we’ve sent him packing, sure; I’m not worried about that. He’s in a good position in Pittsburgh seemingly, with a coaching staff that is much better than the Bears per Justin. Good luck to you and the Steelers. We do not play each other this year. The only time we would meet, would be in the Super Bowl; I’m not worried about that either, for either team. Maybe in a couple years…

Frankly, although I was ready to give Justin another chance, hadn’t we seen enough? Are we going to put all of that on the coaching staff and surrounding offensive players? He had his chances, period. He showed flashes, no doubt. His athletic ability is off the charts. He has a big arm. Yet, his accuracy, timely decision making, and big wind up to throw the ball, weren’t exactly his strong suits; maybe he improves in those areas… good for him. From what I’ve seen thus far, basing this on all the other QBs I’ve seen play in this league, Caleb looks different; maybe I’m just saying that because I’m hoping that? He does look different. I think he’s going to be just fine. He’ll be making his 4th career start this Sunday vs the Rams. I feel zero regret with letting Justin walk and drafting Caleb… zero. Now as far as the coaching staff and surrounding offensive talent, specifically the line, well… hoping the next chapter is a little bit better than the last 3.

You see, we are a battered bunch, us Bears fans, when it comes to QBs. We’ve been through the ringer. Our patience is low; we’ve seen many a QB fail right in front of our eyes here in Chicago. We’re envious of other QBs doing well. From Brady to Mahomes, to the couple in Green Bay, hopefully not another one there. Now we see our most recent QB doing well… how about Trubisky by the way? Career backup for Mitch; will Justin find himself that same path? Time will tell, but… no looking back man. What’s done is done. It’s time to wish our ex well, and keep it moving. For whatever reasons it didn’t work out here; the focus should now be on making it work with our current QB. Caleb Williams is here, to stay hopefully, with many wins ahead. Certainly a 1-2 start is not going to dampen our enthusiasm with him or this team, right? Right. Bear Down.
