September 25, 2024: Down the Stretch

posted in: Cubs, White Sox | 0

You still watching baseball? I am. Sure, the Cubs have been eliminated, and the Sox, well… but it’s exciting, seeing the other teams come down the stretch, fighting for the wild card spots. There are some seasons when the Cubs are done, I’m done; that hasn’t been the case the past couple years. I’m locked in right now, ready to see some playoff baseball.

It’s kind of appropriate, the Phillies clinched against the Cubs, helped by a home run from Kyle Schwarber. 8 years ago now… is that crazy or what? Look forward to the offseason, but based on how the last couple have went, expectations are very low; it’s better that way… less disappointment, not as far of a fall from the top. The Sox on the other hand, well, they can’t win for winning. On Tuesday night, the Sox were primed to break the MLB record for most losses in a season. They were losing 2-0, and voila… a comeback from the worst team in MLB history; I guess that history part will have to wait. Because of that, the fans were pissed… haha… they were booing the Sox off the field… AFTER A WIN!!! Yes, this is the world we are living in. Chants of “sell the team” came down from the couple thousand folks that were there. What an absolute disaster.

How about the Dodgers-Padres game last night? This is one of the only divisions up for grabs. Yesterday, the Padres turned a triple play to end the game in the top of the 9th, with Shohei standing on deck… The division is STILL up for grabs, but the Padres clinched at least a wild card spot with that rare play… wow! And how about the Tigers? They’ve come storming back over the past 6 weeks, and on the back of the eventual AL Cy Young winner Skubal, won another game on Tuesday afternoon. Barring a collapse, they look to punch their postseason ticket soon.

On a final note, maybe another reason I’m still zoned in on baseball, is because I made the fantasy baseball finals in my $ league; my son is in the finals in our family league. I was up about 10 points going into Sunday, and I had zero starting pitchers; I was facing 5… and I still won! Both of my relievers got points, which helped make this small miracle happen. I’m officially in the money now, but I want the championship! After 2 days, I’m down… but I’ve been here before. Hoping for my team, which spent most of the year out of the playoffs, to stay hot, and give me one more W.

I’m ready for the MLB postseason. I tracked it pretty closely last year; I plan to do the same this year. Hoping to have some success on the DK side of things with the MLB playoffs. Will the dogs rule as they have been in the NFL thus far? I don’t think there is one team head and shoulders above anybody else, so… very possible. More to come.
