September 25, 2017: Carrying Glennon

posted in: Bears | 1

I know, I know.  I should just be happy that the Bears won one.  I am, please don’t misunderstand me.  But it was a win in spite of Glennon.  Remember all those games we won in spite of our quarterback?

We are no strangers to that method of winning:  solid defense and running the ball.  Actually, for many of us, that is the preferred method.  The old Smashmouth Football, that is rarely seen in today’s NFL.  The type of game that us Bears fans wear as a badge of honor.  The Monsters of the Midway!  We get off the bus running.  Yes, we are very familiar with wins like this Sunday against the Steelers.

Yeah, there were times when our QB did win some games for us.  For all my hate, Cutler did win some games for us over the years.  Then there were those other years, where we had no other option.  We had to deal with the QB we had, because there was nobody else, let alone someone on our roster, that could help us.  This is NOT the current scenario.

At the very least, we do not know if we have somebody who could be doing better than Glennon.  Aren’t we all ready to find that out yet?

Thankfully, we did get the win.  We did not completely flush the first 3 games of the season down the toilet.  At 1-2, with the schedule that we’ve had to play, we should be satisfied.  I am, and I’m not.  I’m not because we could have been better.  We could be better going forward.  We certainly won’t bring in a new QB on a short week… and maybe after week 2 was too early for some folks… but seriously, how much longer much we watch this incompetence at the most important position in the game?  Haven’t we seen this all too often over the years?  Aren’t we ready to see if our guy on the bench is THE guy?  Aren’t we at least ready to give him a chance?

I’m looking forward to Glennon’s last game at QB this week.  Unfortunately, I think it will be another loss…this time to the hated Pack.  This loss will have silver lining though.  We will no longer have to be carrying Glennon in games like this; I’m hoping this is the last time he plays QB in a Bears uniform.  Too much?

I’m sure he can be a serviceable backup somewhere in the league, but to put a C on his chest, and force feed him down our throat while we have the number two overall pick sitting on the bench; I know he can at the very least hand off all game like Ostrich boy.  After the loss to the Packers, the announcement will be made.  Then, Mitch will have ten days to prepare himself for his debut, which just so happens to be on MNF in front of the home crowd.  I’ve been saying it for more than a month; please let me be right this one time.

Howard and Cohen look like a formidable duo.  The OL looked a heck of a lot better with Long back.  Sure, the WRs are still no names, but the defense is OK too.  Enter Trubisky and I think we can actually expect some more wins.  We can expect to win some games because of him, not in spite of him.  Please let me be right.  Bear Down!!!

DA BEARS are back! HAHAHA. What a great victory but what does it mean? It means that the Bears have some pieces in place that are working. The D seems to be a lot better and has played very well in all 3 games, minus a big play here or there. The duo of Howard and Cohen is dangerous. With Long back on the O line, running for 100+ yards should be a weekly goal. With this in mind, the Bears cannot afford turnovers and/or falling behind because then they will get away from the game plan and force giraffe boy to make plays that he can not. Yes, yes, Glennon helped get the Bears the W, but like you said, it was in spite of his efforts. Any qb can hand the ball off and watch or throw passes to the running backs out of the backfield. The Bears need to be able to move the ball down the field. Yes, the wide outs are the worst in the league, but they must find a way to do so. Too many times, I see the receivers run 5 or 10 yards and turn around. What kind of routes are those? Oh well, happy to see the Bears get their first victory in 2017. How sWeet would it be to beat the pack in gb on Thursday night? Possible, yes. Probable, no. And if not, then get MTru ready for week 5 to turn the Bears season around. For now, enjoy the win and get ready to stomp some cheese! BEAR DOWN!!!
