September 25, 2016: Brown Bag Time

posted in: Bears | 1

I never thought I would ever think this.  I mean, I have “brown bagged” it a number of times in the past with various bottles of liquor, but to put a brown bag over my head as a fan of one of my teams?  Never.  But, when I saw a picture of some Bears fans with brown bags over their heads in Dallas on Sunday night, I could honestly say I understand.

I have felt worse… like after those back to back blowout losses to the Patriots and Packers during the forgettable Trestman era.  I wanted to ring somebody’s neck.  I’m starting to feel like that again.  The Bears stink, and I’m sick of it.

It’s bad enough that we embarrass ourselves locally.  The last 2 weeks we’ve had the pleasure of doing that on a national stage… against 2 rookie QBs?!?  Where do I begin.

Let’s start with the QB position.  I think everybody knows my feelings on that one… but here’s a bit more.  You can’t blame the Bears for not taking Dak Prescott specifically; most teams passed on him.  You can’t blame the Bears for not trading up to get Wentz; hopefully they tried in the past… to dump Cutler… like when Tennessee had the #2 pick and chose Mariota.  I’m really hoping they tried.  Or how about Semien from the Broncos… not sure of the spelling, but who knew, right?  My whole point is, that the Bears should have done SOMETHING.  If you didn’t want to go big, or couldn’t to get a top pick, then fine… take one in the later rounds.  But noooooooo…. basically, riding out this Cutler failed experiment while changing the backup band-aid annually.  That’s the way to address the most important position on the field.  There’s some vision for the future there.  Great planning, and now, we see the next generation of QBs leading their teams right past us, while we drop lower into the dumpster.  This sucks!

Yes, and injuries don’t help either.  The defense has taken some pretty big hits, I’ll give them that.  And you know what else doesn’t help… bullshit calls.  I know it’s in Dallas, but damn… that’s the type of home cooking that they only serve in Lambeau.  That on side kick penalty?  Bullshit.  That holding penalty that was called, then not called… Bullshit.  There was at least one more that I can’t think of right now.  It’s bad enough the state of our team, and then you have the officiating against you?  I hate NFL officiating, but I have to keep reminding myself that they participate in those conference calls each week before the game with Papa Vegas going over the “ground rules” for that week’s game.  Yeah, that 7 point spread… covered like a charm.  Oh and by the way, I did predict the final score exactly; what’s my prize?

I’m not happy that I was right.  I wanted to be right before the season began, and how this Bears team would improve this year.  0-3?  WTF!  When will this misery end?  I have some ideas, but think that’ll have to be another post.  I can’t write 2000 words in one post.  For now, we have to take more losing.  Thank God for the Cubs… I’d really be in a bad mood if they weren’t doing well.  I’ll have to rely on them to hopefully carry us through until November…  Detroit for our Bears next week.  First win?  I’m not convinced…

HAHAHA…brown bagging it as a fan…pretty funny stuff. What is not funny is this Bears team. I cannot believe how bad it is right now. It definitely seems like they are going in the wrong direction. I sure as hell hope the plan was and is not to sign or franchise tag cutler after this year. He needs to go. Actually, he should be done in a Bears uniform this year. Roll with hoyer and sign an undrafted rookie qb as backup…who knows, worth a shot. The D has been plagued by injuries with about half of the starting D out with injuries. No excuses but it is hard to overcome. That plus being on the field for the most time in the nfl game after game is crippling. Pace and fox look lost right now. They need to get this team moving in the right direction before they both lose their jobs. And what next for the Bears? A home game vs the lions…3-13 remember? Does not sound too appealing but still BEAR DOWN!
