September 24, 2022: Can’t Stop

It doesn’t matter. It doesn’t matter how bad the Cubs season has been or how much crap I’ve talked or how frustrated I am, I still can’t stop watching them. They are my team. If there was ever a meaningless game, it would be Friday night in Pittsburgh with both teams nowhere near the playoffs, although there were more people in attendance for that game than the night before. Yet, there I was, sitting on the couch watching them. It was actually a pretty good game that ended with the Cubs victorious. Winning never gets old.

The Cubs actually won the night before too, in a game that had a little more meaning for me personally. Yeah, I’m still paying attention, not only to the Cubs, but to baseball in general. My son and I are in the fantasy baseball playoffs facing off against my brother in law. I chose to pick up the Cubs rookie pitcher.. Wisnewski maybe? I’m too damn lazy to confirm the spelling. I remember his debut; he looked pretty good. I believe we got him in return for Effross, whom we sent to the Yankees. He started the previous time around; this would be his second start I believe. I’m glad I picked him up. He brought home 14 points for us, and helped us build our lead in the semifinals. I watched his immaculate inning; that was cool. This was definitely one of the top highlights of the season for the Cubs. The bullpen actually held on to the lead too, which locked up that additional six points for us with the W. I haven’t relied on many Cubs this year for fantasy baseball, but this kid came through…

Of course, I’m paying attention to the rest of baseball too; it’s homestretch time. I know football is pulling me in one direction, but I’m still holding on. This means I saw that Albert Pujols hit his 700th home run last night in LA; whip a dee do da! It IS baseball history, which is the only reason I care; I still think they should give him a piss test, as there’s no way he just raises from the dead this second half of the season. Anyways, one of the things left on my list for the season is to see the Cardinals get eliminated; patiently waiting. Aaron Judge is having quite the season. The impressive thing to me is it’s not all power; he’s hitting over 300 and in contention for the Triple Crown. He also can play a little defense; he gunned a guy out last night at 2nd base. Although what Ohtani is doing is historic in general, I do think Judge deserves the MVP this year, although I certainly don’t have an official vote in the whole thing. And all this in a contract year… the Yankees certainly have to pay the man his money, right? We may see the largest contract in MLB history.

Yeah, I love baseball, and of course, the Cubs; have my Cubs hoodie on right now. Looking forward to my son’s baseball game this weekend, because watching him play the game that I love… doesn’t get any better. Baseball season isn’t over quite yet…
