It was the good Bears that prevailed Monday night in New York. A final score of 27-19 concluded 2 back-to-back, coast-to-coast, primetime wins… and it feels so good.
That’s all it’s about anyways… getting that W, any which way. Let’s start with Cutler. For all the crap I talk about him, for the horrible game 1 performance at home, he has shined the last 2 games: 6 TDs and 0 interceptions. Yes, he had a fumble today, but thankfully it was originally whistled dead, or I may be telling a different story. Yes, he made some shaky throws, but he dodged the bullets. At the end of the day, he’s won, and that’s what it’s all about. How do you measure a successful QB? It’s all about that W baby, and that’s what we’ve got the last 2 games. Cutler gets a lot of credit for that.
The game started off fantastically. After intercepting Geno, Mundy took it back to the house… barely. He looked like a LB running back that pick, but he made it, and the Bears jumped out early. It’s always good to get up early, especially on the road, and that’s what the defense did for us. The defense was great today. They were great for this pick 6, they were great for the Fuller pick in the end zone, but most of all, they were great because they persevered. They were falling like flies out there, but they kept it together just enough to hold on to that precious victory.
I was losing track of who was out there on defense. Already down Peanut, Ratliff, Shea, and McManus, the Bears lost Conte & Mundy, both starting safeties. With all the guys they were cycling in on the D Line, and in the secondary, and all those dreads covering up their names, I was just trying to keep track. They came through though, that’s for sure. Talk about baptism by fire, that’s what happened to these guys today. Our 2 rookie DT’s, and all the secondary guys that came in to help Jennings and Fuller, did the job. This is encouraging, and goes a long way to building that depth that I’ve talked about… that depth that I thought we lacked… that depth I think we’re gaining through this game experience. It’s exciting to see these young guys come in and make plays. Those rookie DTs held that run defense together in my opinion. The LBs did pretty well too. Even Allen picked it up late in the game after getting blanked for much of it. But, my defensive MVP has to go to Kyle Fuller… again. With a huge pick in the end zone, some tackles, some pass deflections, and a Peanut Punch, he is growing before our eyes. Dare I say NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year? With 3 picks through 2 games, and the starting job locked up for the rest of the season, he is a good guy to put your money on.

The defense wasn’t the only side of the ball that had to play through injuries. Missing Garza and Slauson on the line, the OL really played well, especially against this blitzing defense. Besides a hands to the face penalty that negated a Marshall TD, De La Puente and Ada came through. (I think that’s their names) Then our #1 WR gets hurt again, and goes in and out of the lineup for the rest of the game. He got his one catch to keep his streak alive, but that was it… literally. With Forte getting bottled up, it was Alshon and Marty B that stepped up big time. Alshon has got some strong hands, as he’s shown pulling in those passes from Jay. Marty B has some nice after the catch moves, that gets him extra yardage. He caught both Cutler TDs, and appears poised for a big year.
Even special teams made a big play today. As long as we can get the punt off, barely avoiding another block today, the coverage units played well, including a fumble recovery early in this one. With the Goulden Boy kicking FGs, you can lock in 3 points every time. They capped off a complete team effort in this one, and that’s what was needed for the W.
We grinded it out. We played through injuries. We made big plays in each phase of the game. Yes, it’s early, and yes, it’s the Jets, but this was a BIG victory. Who would have thought we’d be here after Week 1’s debacle? Well, we are…2-1 that is, and tied atop the NFC North. We get to go back home this week to play an old friend… I don’t care how we get a W, but I think it’s going to take a lot of the same ingredients as this Monday nighter. They’ve proved they can win tough games; now let’s get back to beating our rival. Let’s start Sunday. It’s going to be OK getting up for work tomorrow… we’re riding this W, and it’s Packer week. It doesn’t get much better.

DAAA BEARS!
Always great to win primetime games and to do it in back2back weeks is even sweeter! Love what Cutler is doing right now…if the Bears could only get healthy on the Oline so they can get forte going again. Bennett has been huge so far and the wrs need to stay healthy. The D was great yesterday starting with the pick6. They bent but did not break giving up only 1td and 4fgs. Fuller is growing up right before our eyes, and I thought the lb crew of briggs, dj, and bostic played great last night…seemed to be all over the place. A very good W to set up the rivalry game this weekend. A Bears W will put the cheeseturds in a big hole at 1-3…I got my shovel, lets make that hole HUGE! Enjoy the W and get ready to pound some cheese! BEAR DOWN!!!

FYI, Michael Ola plays in place of Slauson.
Kyle Fuller, Ego Ferguson, and Will Sutton are all looking like good draft choices.
Fuller looks like a real star in the making.
Hopefully Brock Vereen will step up too as he will probably be forced to play well with all the injuries.
Jarad Allen may not be getting sacks, but at least he is playing well and Willie Young IS playing well.
The D-Line is WAY better than last year, at least as of right now.
The O-Line is hurt, but they are at least protecting Cutler.
How far can the passing game take them without much of a running game (and the strong O-Line)??

All wins are good, but the Jets stink and so does Smith. Bears offense still looks average/shaky at best. Jets had safeties playing corner and the Bears still struggled with there so called “Dynamic Offense”. Without the pick 6 and the interception in the endzone??? Can’t count on that every week. Important win regardless, but don’t count on Rodgers making the same mistakes Smith and Kaepernick made or any of the other good QBs.

Agreed MK, let’s bury the Pack when we can; they’re ripe for the picking, I just hope we’re healthy enough on the defensive side of the ball to do it. And both you and Nostradummass got it right about Fuller… he looks awesome.
Then comes LD#19… trying to downplay the Bears 2-1 record. We can always count on that!
Thanks for all the comments. BEAR DOWN!
