I can’t remember a worse weekend in baseball. In a season full of tough losses, those type of gut punches that can derail a season, the Cubs may have been dealt their knockout blow. Cubs got up and went up early on Friday. Yet after three more walks in a row in the top of the 6th, the Cards grabbed the lead and held on for a 2-1 victory. Saturday was a shootout which saw the Cubs winning in the 9th. Yet, two more back to back first pitches from Kimbrel were launched into the bleachers turning a one run lead to a one run deficit which turned into a one run loss. There’s so much to unpack here. It looks like we’ll have plenty of time this offseason to unpack it. Sure, we’re not mathematically eliminated, but we’re as good as dead. I’m in shock. It hasn’t fully sunk in yet; I don’t want it to. I refuse to believe this season will end without a postseason appearance. I’m going to have to accept it. Just not yet…not yet.
