It’s a tradition every year for all but 6 teams in each league… that little “e” showing up next to your team’s name in the MLB standings. Some have been there for a while. After the Cubs loss to the Nationals on Saturday at Wrigley, now we have one too. Yep, small e time for the Cubbies…
I saw someone say the Cubs had a more disappointing season than the Sox; I chuckled. If your team sets the record for the worst team in MLB history, there is nothing, and I mean nothing, that can be more disappointing than that. What the Sox have been this year is nothing short of a total embarrassment. What the Cubs have been? Well, some may categorize this season as disappointing; I won’t disagree with that per se. However, to be truly disappointed, you had to think the Cubs were actually going to better this year than last. Since I didn’t think that, my level of disappointment is a lot lower than most. The Cubs are who I thought they were.
I’ve heard Counsell and Taillon talk lately… about the desire to be a 90 win team every year; talk is cheap. Does Craig think that his management gave him the tools to be successful? He can’t think that. I wonder what he was told when he was hired. Craig, we’re getting you, but we’re not doing shit else to improve the roster. Sorry, when the Cubs snatched up Counsell, I thought that was the first domino… not the last. The Cubs surely would add more talent now, right? Wrong. There I go thinking again.
The Brewers for God’s sake… the Milwaukee Brewers. Look, not a fan, of course, but I do like to root for teams that have never won it, and I do like their #1 fan Bob Uecker. I wouldn’t be crushed if they pulled it off, but I don’t think we have to worry about that. What was the magic formula for the Brewers this year? I can’t see it. There is no reason why the Brewers should be that much better than the Cubs, but they are. I don’t understand; I don’t much want to either. I want the Cubs to get off their asses and bring us a super star or two. Running back the same team for the 3rd straight year next year would be the definition of insanity.
It’s time to bring in the W flag, and break out the Bears flag; it’s that time of year. There will be nothing to conflict with Bears games from here on out, until of course the Bulls and Hawks begin, but baseball is over; the Cubs are dead. Like I said, I’m not so crushed that I won’t watch any more baseball this year; I’m actually looking forward to the postseason. But my team is gone; I knew they would be. Here’s hoping the Cubs do something next year; we’ve been here before.
