I know we’re scarred as a fan base when it comes to QBs, but some people need to pump the f-ing brakes. Starting to position Caleb Williams as a bust at this point in the season is about as ridiculous as it gets. Two and done? That’s all we’re giving guys nowadays? Wow.
Yes, Caleb Williams has played 2 games and has tossed 0 TDs. He has not looked great; I don’t think anybody would say that he has. Has he been historically bad? You can slice stats a million different ways to make your case one way or another. Regardless where his 1st two starts rank, it doesn’t matter; it’s 2 starts!!! Furthermore, the 2 teams we’ve played… not horrible. Yes, the Titans have not won a game yet, but I think they’re going to be better than people think; good luck this weekend vs the Packers. And the Texans? Here is one of the handful of teams that can actually win the Super Bowl. So we’re going to write our #1 pick off already? So stupid.
The other things people like to do is compare, specifically to the last guy we had playing QB. Justin Fields is currently 2-0 with the Pittsburgh Steelers; you do know that he’s thrown 1 TD right? I don’t care if he’s thrown 10; I don’t care if he does well. He is not on our team any more; I wish him well. Sure, I don’t want to see him become some Hall of Famer overnight, but… not worried about that. If you want to do the whole Fields vs Caleb thing, I think it’s night and day; Caleb looks like a QB… you can tell the difference, can’t you? Look, I was supportive of Fields right up until the last day he was a Bear. If the Bears had decided to bring him back for one more year, I wouldn’t have been devastated. But they didn’t; we chose a different path. I’m fine with it.
Oh yeah, the Bears aren’t even 0-2; yeah, we’re 1-1! Although Caleb doesn’t have his first TD pass (if Keenan would have caught that one Week 1… if Rome snatched that one on Sunday night), he does have his first W, and regardless of how much he actually had to do with it, like I’ve said before, QBs are linked to wins and losses, period. Did we expect him to come in and tear up the league? I’ve seen the comment he made to our punter a few times… “you won’t have to punt much this year”… funny. So what if he said that. He’s got confidence; I like that. It hasn’t materialized on the field yet, but it will… I really do believe that.
For anybody mailing it in on Caleb already, you’re an idiot, point blank. If this what two YEARS has been, OK, but two WEEKS?!?! I guess I shouldn’t be totally surprised; he is playing in the league of overreactions like none other. There’s so much flip flop from one week to the next you can catch whiplash. I’m ready to whip my head the other way after Sunday’s game in Indy. Bear Down!
