September 16, 2018: Week 2 Preview Seahawks at Bears

posted in: Bears | 0

OK, it’s been a week since the debacle that was Game 1…  I think we’re all recovered now, right?  It’s only 1 game people!  I’m happy that this happened at the beginning of the season vs the end; we have 15 games to recover.  We have our first chance on the lakefront Monday night.

It kind of sucks that the Bears open up the season with 2 weeks in primetime.  Besides the fact that the Bears seem to always flop in primetime, we haven’t had our normal NFL sunday yet.  Maybe yours moves on without the Bears game… you reserve the whole day, and either have the NFL ticket or flip between RedZone and the games that are on.  I remember those days… Every Sunday during the NFL season was an occasion.  Things done changed.  Now I’m upset about this not because I have to stay up later than normal (not quite there yet, OK!), but because my son doesn’t get to watch a full game yet.  Being school nights, he will not get to see the 2nd half of either of these games; that was a good thing last week.  But now Monday night… he may only see the first quarter…

Papa Vegas has the Bears favorites in this one by 3 points, although with home field, that’s really saying it’s a pick ’em.  We’ll take it.  I do like the Bears to bounce back… surprise, surprise.  I hope they’ll use that week 1 flame out as motivation the rest of the year to play the entire 60 minutes.  I want to see the defense tackle at a high level the entire game.  I want to see Nagy use some common sense on 3rd and even 4th and short situations when you have Jordan Howard in the backfield.  I want to see Trubisky NOT go all gun slinger on us, but trust himself a bit more.  He was so worried about not turning the ball over that we left some plays out there; that confidence will come.  Yes, we cannot control the officials, but everything else is in our control.

One thing that happened last week that I was very excited about was the fact that Jordan Howard actually caught some passes out of the backfield.  We were so used to seeing him drop those… Now I’m not saying he’ll never have another drop, but that was certainly a good start.  That was one piece of his game that was sorely missing.  If he has added that, consistently to the arsenal, his value goes up, not only to the Bears but to my fantasy team.  Not sure what that does to Cohen, who is also on my fantasy team; I thought we were going to see both of them on the field at the same time?  Maybe some more this week?

Who really thought the Bears would beat the Packers week 1?  I know I did, but anybody else?  We were expected to lose by most, and although we did lose in an excruciating manner, it counts as 1 loss in the standings; a loss that most people had us tabbed for anyways.  Looking at this game, and remembering the good things from week 1, we have no choice but to expect to win this game.  I know it may take a bit more to get everybody on board with that thinking, but expecting to win is hopefully one of those things that is getting taught in the locker room; it’s time to start practicing the execution of that mind set.  Bear Down!
