September 16, 2016: In Style

posted in: Cubs | 1

So I was one game off.  Thinking that the Cubs would clinch last night in walk off fashion, hoping not to lose again today then celebrate, the Cubs capped their division winning season in style with a walk off win courtesy Miggy’s long ball in the 10th. Boo ya baby!

That feels good. That’s how you do it. That’s how you kick off a weekend. I’m ready to crack open a beer. I’m happy as hell right now.

Not time to worry yet. It’s time to celebrate excellence over 162.  The best team all year is now the first team to clinch their division; the Cubs have punched their playoff ticket for the second consecutive year.  What’s next?

Well, the new magic number, which after Friday sits at 9.  Maybe I’ll be in the house for that clincher next Wednesday; that was the game I bought tickets to a month ago hoping to time the clincher.  Ahead of schedule I guess.

Normally on Fridays during Bears season, it’s game preview time. I had to interrupt that regularly schedule blog to spread some joy.  That preview will be here tomorrow.

The playoffs seemingly will be here tomorrow too.  Although if you’ve thought this season has dragged, or maybe the last few weeks, the next few weeks will be brutal. All the talk will be about how will the Cubs do in the playoffs. I’m not going there yet.  Still enjoying today; enjoying this season. It’s been one of the best ever.

Can’t wait to get home and watch the highlights…the celebration. My wife is recording it. Let’s try to take these next few weeks to reflect on this season, and all the great things that have happened. Comcast had a nice little montage of the season that they showed before yesterday’s potential clincher.  I hope to add to that highlight reel. We need more footage to show on that Cubs network in a couple years.  That black and white video can only last so long.

It feels like we’re living history right now. That this year, these upcoming years, will be unforgettable.  It feels like we’re witnessing something special.  I want to burst with joy, but still need to be patient…cautious.  Seeing is believing; we’ve seen a lot so far this year.

More to come of course, but for now, enjoy!  For every die hard out there…this is for you! This makes all those ups and downs worth it. This could eventually heal all wounds. This is our time.

Crack a cold one. Put your Cubs gear on. Sleep with it on. Celebrate in style. Our boys did today. It’s a great time to be a Cubs fan. The best is yet to come!  Go Cubs Go!

Thank you Miggy! Maddon had good things to say about you and how you have handled this year…mentoring Wilsson and accepting your role. That is what will need to continue from all of the Cubs come playoff time. And guess what? Cubs are nl central champs! The playoffs are official! Celebrate and party but work is still to be done. Lock up home field at Wrigley throughout. Get guys healthy. Maybe hit a few individual pitching or hitting goals. Get ready for the pressure and expectations of this year’s playoffs. The Cubs will and should be the favorites. Forget the history, forget the failures, forget everything that has happened prior to this year. Next year is here. This is THE year. BELIEVE! GO CUBS GO!!!
