September 15, 2024: The Future

Watching the Bears play the Texans on Sunday Night Football, I was thinking about the future… Two years ago, the Texans were shit; they drafted CJ Stroud and Will Anderson. They turned it around quickly, and made a playoff appearance last year. This year, they are primed to be a true Super Bowl contender. For most of the past 2 years, the Bears have been shit; we drafted Caleb Williams, and our defense, which was the best part of our team, has returned to its form. Will we make the playoffs this year? Will we contend for the Super Bowl next year? Not everybody can be on the same timeline, but as I look at this Texans team, I can only hope to be as good as them next year. As for this matchup, well, it looked like the difference of about a year.

My biggest concern coming into this season was the offensive line. Yes, the Texans may be one of the best defenses we face all season, so there’s that, but… the line was bad on Sunday night in Houston. I’m not blaming the OC, yet. I’m not putting this on Caleb Williams, yet. For this one, I’m chalking it up to great defense against bad offensive line. Only problem is, how does this line get better THIS year? If it doesn’t, then what? We’re going to get Caleb killed back there. Maybe we can assume we will not face another team that can do what the Texans did to us in this one? That’s wishful thinking. For all the great work Poles has done with this roster, it’s kind of mind boggling that the ex-offensive lineman hasn’t shored up the one position that we need to be strong in order for our #1 pick to shine, in order for our offense to run halfway efficiently. It’s an issue. If you didn’t want to believe it before, believe it now. I feel like we’ve been through this before…

For the good news, our defense played their asses off against maybe one of the best offenses we’ll face all year; this is very promising. Get ready for a lot of low scoring games??? I feel like we’ve been through this before. Look, heading into this game vs Houston, I wasn’t expecting a W; we didn’t exactly embarrass ourselves either, like we have previously in prime time games. Caleb looked like the rookie he is, and boy did he get battered. The offense needs some work. The defense looks like it’s ready to contend right now. Where does that leave us?

There’s work to do; we didn’t think it was going to be THAT easy, did we? Next week, we’ll face a little easier opponent in the Colts, who couldn’t even beat the Packers with Malik Willis starting at QB… no pressure Bears, but, um… we need to paste their asses. Do that, and we’ll be back on track. Do it not, and well, get ready to lean on that virtue we know so well… sometimes I get so tense but I can’t speed up the time… Bear Down!
