September 15, 2022: Fantasy Roundup

Busy time a year in the old fantasy leagues… With the start of football, and the playoffs in baseball, I am spending some extra time on my phone looking at things. Always an active waiver wire watcher, and trying to fine tune my baseball teams for the playoffs… there’s a lot going on. But don’t worry, I’ve got you covered; welcome to fantasy roundup.

I was 2-1 in my 3 fantasy football leagues in Week 1. I took on one the chin in my keeper league, but won a close one in my auction league. I absolutely dominated in my family league, scoring the 2nd most points in the league… to my son. I’ve talked about this before. To say my son is in to fantasy football would be an understatement. “Dad, can I check fantasy on your phone?” Going over and over the stats, sorting players by position and ranking, setting his lineup for the entire season, looking at everybody else’s team… he’s zoned in. Week 1 was very, very good to him. Last year he started off his rookie fantasy football season 0-5, including some tough luck losses. This year would be different. 1-0 with the most points scored in the league. He was very happy to see his team atop the standings. I’m right behind him. Is this a sign of things to come? Will I be battling against my son for a fantasy title in the family league? Way too early to tell, but to see us 1-2 for a week, is pretty cool.

With all the focus on the return of football, we cannot forget about baseball. Although the Cubs are long gone, our fantasy teams are loaded. We got a bye week in the family league. I love and hate bye weeks. I love them because you avoid “one bad week” happening. I hate them because if your team does well, you feel like you wasted a week. The way this week is shaping out, looks like we’ll be playing my dad in the semifinals next week. Like I said, our team is pretty loaded… not sure how many moves we’ll have to make, but certainly will be following that closely as we creep towards Monday. In my other league, I didn’t get a bye. My team has been hot down the stretch, finishing with the same record, and essentially the same points as the 4th seeded team. We would meet in the playoffs. We go way back; he’s a big time Sox fan, I’m a big time Cubs fan. There were years we worked together and talked a whole bunch of crap back and forth; it was fun. He knows baseball too. It’s always fun matching up against somebody who knows their shit; he’s been playing fantasy baseball for a lot longer than me. It’s not fun when your team shits the bed the first half of the week… IN THE PLAYOFFS!!! Just bad timing, seriously. To have one of the worst starts of the week all year… to save that for the one and done playoffs… priceless. I’m not out of it yet, but let’s just say I will need a huge 3 days this weekend to pull this one out. I do have my pitching lined up; how about some Complete Game Shutouts?

Ok, now you’re up to speed with my fantasy life; I know you were wondering how it was going. Now, back to my phone to check out who I can add this weekend to help me pull this out, who I will add next week in the other playoffs, and how I will go 3-0 across my football leagues this week. Damn, my thumb is tired…
