September 15, 2015: One Two

So the predicted one pitched like one in game number two of the doubleheader.  He keeps this up he’ll be a nice number two in a potentially dangerous one two punch for the Cubs this postseason.

Jon Lester threw his first complete game of the year. It couldn’t have come at a better time. Well, thus far that is.  Coming off a loss in the front end of the double dip, this one was big. He was big, and now the series is tied.

This is what we expected when we signed the big money man.  He’s been much better as the season has progressed. Yes, he still has the yips with base runners, which is concerning no doubt, and his fielding is scary, but his pitching has been good, and was damn good tonight, and this is what we pay him for right?

Well, he earned the bucks tonight.  Heck, he even picked somebody off; was that a first?  At this point in the season, game 144, we don’t expect him to be the number one anymore, but to have him as a number two is quite attractive.

That’s because as we all know, jake is our ace; he throws tomorrow by the way. So if he throws 163, and we win, then Lester is pegged for game 1 in the NLDS; not bad. But this brings me to my next question:  Who throws game 2?

After seeing game 1, and many of his recent performances, I’m not really feeling Hammel.  I always thought he’d be a solid 4, but we’re looking for a 3 now.  Hendricks?  Could be a better choice than Jason right now.  Haren has been a train wreck other than one start…against the Cardinals…yeah, the cardinals. So who is it then?

Jake on short rest?  Guess it depends on the result of game 1, which doesn’t happen without a W in 163. Still, we need somebody else to step up eventually if we’re going to make a run.

For now, let’s just agree on the 1-2 punch which brought our magic number to officially begin this conversation to 12.  Let’s dance!

Game 2 should go to Jake depending on the pitch count for game 163. In the playoffs you take the top 3 pitchers and bullpen the rest, is it truly a veteran like Haren or a rookie like Hendricks…tough call.

Lets worry about that when we get there!

    Go Cubbies!

Biggest game of the year for lester…awesome! Here’s hoping he has more gems like this one upcoming!
As for game 2 of the playoffs, assuming the Cubs get there, have to go with the hot hand. If thr decision was made today, I say hendricks, but each of them has a few starts left before that point. Maybe hammel and haren turn it around…depends on the matchup, too. Maddon will make the call like he has all year…no feeling bad for anyone, do the right thing for the Cubs!
    GO CUBS GO!!!
