September 13, 2021: Where to Start

That was fun… not. The Bears lost to the Rams on Sunday Night Football to begin the 2021 season. Lots of stuff to talk about; not many of them good. Where to start….

OK, I’ll throw a name out there: Eddie Jackson. First Rams TD, neglected to touch the WR as he laid on the ground after catching a long pass allowing him to roll, then jump up and run into the end zone; honorable mention to Gipson Jr. Second Rams TD, certainly appeared like Ed was right in the middle of one of the worst blown coverages since Chris Conte. Third Rams TD, he fails to tackle Cooper at the 5 yard line… oh wait, they reviewed that and he was a half yard short. Another score, I’m losing track at this point, he missed an easy tackle that allowed Cooper to pick up a big first down. I think you call that the Trifecta, or Hat Trick… something like that, but it ain’t good. At this point, I feel like driving to Jewel, buying all his cereal, and throwing it in the F-ing dumpster. Apparently, “Bo Jack” was a one year wonder; he hasn’t done shit since 2018. And now, he takes up a big chunk of our salary cap running around in the defensive secondary doing nothing in particular; so much for hoping he could return to his form and help shore up the weakest part of our defense. I really can’t imagine a worse game for an individual player on defense… Honestly, I’d be fine if the Bears cut him now…

OK, how about that Red Rifle, that apparently cannot fire a bullet further than 15 yards. It was dink and dunk central as Andy “lead” the offense up and down the field. Hey, there was one nice drive… As far as the QB goes, we’ve seen this movie before; we knew this going into the game. I feel like everybody knows this except the guy that should, and that’s Nagy. There is absolutely no reason why Fields shouldn’t be playing. Dalton was not horrible, he was just what every other Bears QB has been in my lifetime pretty much. When will I get to see a franchise QB? I like how Nagy gave us a few bread crumbs, bringing Fields in here and there. So that’s the big plan Matt? Really? Hey, I will say this: when Fields got in the end zone, I went absolutely nuts. 1 Bears game, 1 Fields TD… this is about the only thing that has me alive right now…

OK, another name: David Montgomery. He looked really good; I’m hoping the only reason he wasn’t out there more in the 2nd half is because he was banged up. It looked like they were looking at something. Feed this man the ball. I just hope that Nagy stops being a stubborn ass and runs the ball, which we actually weren’t half bad at. But no… regardless of the Rams daring the Bears to run the ball all game long, Nagy resisted… and preferred the dink and dunk plays in the playbook with Dalton’s name on them. It’s pretty amazing. Instead of taking the easy, wide open layup, Nagy kicks it back out for a fadeaway three… You know they say running the football can protect a QB; you know running the football could really help a rookie QB in their development. If Nagy simply won’t budge on running the ball, I just don’t know what to say…

OK, there’s some of my quick trigger initial thoughts. There was a clear missed PI call against A-Rob; what else is new. I wonder how sick A-Rob is of running those 5 yard hook patterns… good God. The backup RB looked OK, as did Kmet, and #84 who had me keep thinking about Ron Morris. Graham had one nice catch against hype man Ramsey. The defense in general was disappointing, but Eddie… wow. You think we miss Fuller in the secondary? The other Eddie was missing, Goldman; no Quinn, although it felt like that last year when he WAS playing. I don’t know man… I need to let this sink in a bit more. Tough loss; not totally unexpected, but I thought it would have been closer. Those 2 big plays killed us, and the guy in the middle of both of them is being paid a whole lot of money. He is the scapegoat of this game. In fact he was so bad, Nagy should thank him… for taking a little of the spotlight off him and his decision making. Bear Down guys, bear down…
