September 11, 2021: The Return of KB

posted in: Cubs | 0

It’s a sad day, you know. Yes, today is the 20 year anniversary of 9/11. Everybody will be remembering this day; I wish we didn’t have to. I wish it never happened. The horror of that day will be relived by all, regardless if you watch stuff about that day; it will be hard not to. Because if you were alive that day, you don’t need any reminders; one of the scariest days ever. No need for me to add much more, other than thanking all those who helped that day and the days after, and hoping all the families of those who didn’t get to see September 12 are doing OK. Now back to your regularly scheduled blogging…

It was a sad day, Friday at Wrigley Field, for a completely different reason, on a completely different level. It was the return of KB. Spoiler alert: he should have never been forced to leave. Did we ever think we’d get here? I remember the whole controversy at the start of KB’s career, about service time, and how the Cubs played by that rule not bringing him up for the start of his rookie season, but instead weeks later, saying he had to “work on stuff”. We knew that was BS, but don’t hate the player, hate the game. If the rule is so unfair, MLB should change it. And hey, we got to see Mike Olt play for a few weeks… Did KB and/or most likely his agent have this in the back of their heads thinking about the day he’ll need to sign a new contract here in Chicago? How DID those negotiations go between both parties? Well, not well I guess… and now we have to see him in another uniform? This is the worst.

Yeah, the Cubs screwed the pooch on this one to be nice. They let all of the core get into the last year of their contracts without resigning ANY of them; this is called mismanagement 101… idiots… f-ing idiots. If there was anyone, just one of the three that should have never wore another uniform, it’s KB. You can argue the case for any of them, I understand that; we shouldn’t have had to just pick one. But KB… man, highly touted, rookie of the year, MVP, the World Series turning HR in Game 5 at Wrigley, the fielding of the biggest groundball in Cubs history… I thought this guy would be one of the best, if not THE best Cub player ever at that point. Sure, he didn’t keep up that historic pace; surely a reason to trade him. He had his share of nagging injuries; surely another reason to trade him. The Cubs could never climb back to the top of that mountain; three reasons was enough. And of course let’s not forget that the Cubs were just too damn cheap to open up the pocket books for one of their homegrown boys. Dammit.

I was getting better you know? I wasn’t as bitter, not as angry, but now, those feelings are rushing back. Having to watch Kris Bryant come on the field at the cathedral in a Giants uniform is like being in an episode of the Twilight Zone. Seeing him wipe away tears, those same tears we saw him shed when he knew, when he found out that he was getting traded… pathetic man, simply pathetic… this should have NEVER happened. And then to see Ricketts and his cronie out there hugging him… you bastards. You blow up this team, you shred the core, then want to stand out there with them when they come back, hugging them like you couldn’t have changed this outcome, hearing all the cheers like they’re for you… what a bunch of ass wipes, seriously.

Yeah, it wasn’t fun; I tried not to watch it… I tried to ignore it. Seeing KB stand by his picture painted as tall as the building it’s on, the same one I’ve taken multiple pictures of my son in front of… such bullshit man. This should have been him in about 15 years, retiring after 22 years as a Cub, NOT now, getting traded after only 7 years as a Cub. Whew… I’m done…
