September 11, 2019: Never Forget

posted in: Cubs | 1

We will never forget September 11th, although I’m sure there are many people who wish they could.  It’s one of those days where you will always remember where you were when the news started breaking.  One of the worst sights in my life, to see that happen, and think about all the people who lost their lives that day; I couldn’t imagine being there.  I could only imagine the bravery it took for those police and firemen who had to run into those buildings trying to save people instead of trying to get away as soon as possible.  September 11th is certainly one of those days that will forever live in infamy.

I had just met my future wife earlier that year.  On this particular morning, we were carpooling to work; we both worked in downtown Chicago.  As she dropped me off, there was news on the radio about a plane crash; we didn’t think much of it.  As I heard it had crashed into one of the World Trade Towers in downtown NYC, I thought that’s not good; after I heard about the 2nd plane crashing into the other tower, you knew something was up.  There was then word about something in DC and Pennsylvania.  Working in downtown Chicago, blocks from Sears Tower, we thought maybe we would be next…

You should have seen the mass exodus of people from downtown Chicago on that day.  The only time I have ever seen it that crowded was for the Bulls rallies at Grant Park, or more recently, the Cubs parade in 2016.  So many people, not looking right… confused, worried, downright scared.  We met at my apartment at the time, and were pretty much glued to the TV, as I’m sure most were on this day.  We walked to get some lunch, where the TVs all showed what was going on.  I had never seen something like this hit so close to home…  What the heck is going on?

There are several new drugs that have come on the market today and tadalafil cipla is one of them, but self medicating is never a good idea. Keep you active Chocolate contains caffeine, so if you cialis brand 20mg will have to visit the local drug-store. Environmental factors There commander levitra have been studies that show that this is the simple and easiest way to treat erectile dysfunction in men. ED is incurable but treatable Men should know that doing lot of exercise will keep him fit but the work of giving good erection can only done with http://djpaulkom.tv/kmart-ship-my-pants-commercial/ viagra levitra.

I’m not really interested in watching what transpired on this day again, but that’s just me.  We know what happened.  Do we really know why it happened?  We do know many lives were lost that day.  Maybe I will watch some of it in the future, or maybe I’ll read a book about the events of that day, and the days leading up to it.  I did read a book about Pearl Harbor; December 7th is a day that we said we’d never forget too…  although as time goes on, it doesn’t seem as prevalent; certainly not like 9/11 now.

What day will be next on that list?  Certainly can’t go through life worrying about that.  Yet, when we watch what is going on in our world today, you can’t help but think there will be a next one.  Is there something we can do to prevent another horrific day from occurring?  What are we doing right now about the things that happen day in and day out in our country, state, or city?  Certainly questions worth answering, but who has the right answer?  Back to Chicago sports, because those type of questions are easier for me.

Well, I am one of those people who watch all of those shows going thru 9/11. I watch them every year, and every year I sit there and cry. I agree with the props for all of those 1st responders…I give them every bit of respect they deserve.
Then I hear that there is a ‘movement’ to stop showing those 9/11 shows! Because some group(s) feel like it shows them in a negative light. My 1st thought is F THEM. If you’re in that group that feels ‘put upon’, you’re probably also, somewhere along the line, in ‘that’ group that’s responsible for 9/11!d
It’s part of OUR history!! If we stop teaching about 9/11, should we stop teaching the Civil War, WW1, WW2, Viet Nam, Slavery, the Holocaust, the Korean War, and every thing else that has become part of our history??? That history is what led us to who and where we are as a country. If you don’t think we’re in a good place as a country, maybe we should start remembering what it took to give you the freedom(s) to complain about it. There are many countries that would throw you in jail just for voicing your opinion.
With all those freedoms in mind, remember those people that ran INTO those buildings, who went before us to defend US in all of those wars and/or conflicts. Thank a Vet. Thank a Fireman. Thank a Policeman. Stop whining about every little thing that ‘offends’ you. Bitching about every little thing probably causes more people to bitch about you and your whiny little complaints. Stand up and appreciate just how good you do have it. And if you still don’t like it, Canada is just a few hours away…….
