What a way to start the season. Welcoming in the cheese to Soldier Field. This could be real bad.
“Could” being the key word. What the heck can we really expect from the Bears this year? OK, I think everyone is finally fully aware of what we have in Cutler. Could he finally live up to his potential? That would be like waiting for Gordon Beckham to live up to his. Don’t get me wrong, anything is possible, and as a Bears fan, I would welcome it. Not so sure you can teach an old dog new tricks though…
Though we do have new tricks for him. Another new OC in Gase has to be better than what he’s had. More importantly, I like the head coach. He seems like a no nonsense dude, who will keep guys in line, and cut them, ala Tim Jennings and Jordan Mills, if necessary. This will be good in the long term, but this year… what will the impact be?
Again, it’s one thing to have a good coaching staff, but how many wins does that buy you? You still need talent on the field. It’s a players league, and more than that, a QB league. So we know what Cutler is, and by the way, who will he be throwing to on Sunday? Alshon had his first 2 limited practices in a month this week, Royal and Wilson are both nursing injuries… Maybe the element of surprise will help the Bears? We can only hope.
One thing that won’t be a surprise is Matt Forte… he’s as solid as they come. Expect more of the same from him, and we really need our TE Bennett to be big as well. If those guys can have big games, maybe we put up some points. Then there’s the defense…
Younger defense for sure. Another new coach… big time upgrade. A brand new defense, introducing the three four. What will all this add up to on the field? Again, will the element of surprise help us this week?
Another well known commodity is Aaron Rodgers. Jordy Nelson gone for the year, but so what? He’ll make somebody else the next Jordy Nelson. They scooped back up James Jones in a move everybody saw coming once he got cut. And Lacy… in his 2nd year, will be better. On the defensive side of the ball, they do have some injuries. Both of their safeties may be out on Sunday, which will help equalize our game time decision WR corps. Enough to make this a game?

The 16-0 lead that they blew that cost them a trip to the Super Bowl… the botched on side kick… getting Bostick’d… priceless. Will that carry over to game 1 this year, the first time they step back on the field? Or, will they be so upset that they pound the Bears into the ground? I’ll go with the first. And Fox and the Bears will have some say, right? They’re not just going to let the Pack walk all over them like previously. At least I hope not..
Final Score Prediction
Chicago 20 Green Bay 17
A homer pick all the way, but I have my reasons. Either way, I think this one gets decided by Gould or Crosby. Plus the Bears aren’t too bad in Week 1 historically… they sneak a win in before the rest of the league figures them out.
Ace in the Hole
Bringing back the ace from last year, we’re going with Matt Forte. If we can run successfully, we have a much better chance in this one, and I think we’ll be able to. 150+ total yards from scrimmage and 2 TDs will help bring home a shocking W.
DA Bears are back. With a season of low expectations matched up with not really knowing what to expect, maybe we get a good surprise. Maybe they won’t be as bad as everyone is saying and thinking. Do you like surprises?

ACE: Martellus Bennett, 7 rec 94 years 1 TD, with GB planning for Jefferies and Forte, Bennett will be the only one open and the only one too strong to hold down.
I’d love to see the Bears win, and maybe GB can knock the crap out of the CBC a few times!
