Do you remember where you were 13 years ago today? I’ll never forget that day, as I’m sure most of us won’t. 3 years ago today my 2nd nephew was born; easy birthday to remember. Happy 3 Henry. On to football…
I’m pretty happy with myself after week 1 in the NFL. Yeah, I’m pissed as hell the Bears lost, but happy to say I annihiliated my competition this week in Fantasy football (meanwhile, still I’m in a dogfight in my fantasy baseball playoffs). Let’s see how my opposite predictions went in Week 1. (I get all my ratings from Yahoo per our PPR fantasy football league).
At QB, I was horribly wrong about Shaun Hill. In fact, so wrong, that he may not ever see the field again in the NFL. It’s picks like these… a pick that is SO wrong, that it’s hilarious. As far as Drew Brees goes, he didn’t have a spectacular game, but he did finish #10 overall. I can’t take credit for this one, even though I want too, since I did say he would finish out of the top 10. That was close.
At RB, I’m going to enjoy my first correct pick with Adrian Peterson. He had a very pedestrian game, and finished outside the top 15 RBs this week. My other pick is another close loss. CJ, Spiller that is, did get in the end zone, but he did not make the top 10. I think I’ll change my specific verbage going forward so I can take the close calls, and not be forced to take an L for it.
Antonio Brown had a huge game, another L there. However, I am going to take Wheaton as a W. He finished as the #26 rated WR this week, which was much better than predicted for him, so I’m taking this one. Olsen made me look bad, while the TE from Atlanta DID get in the end zone, so I’m taking that one too.

My record for the week 1 opposite plays is 3-5.
Some other week 1 non-Bear NFL thoughts… Glad to see Green Bay, New Orleans, and New England lose. All teams with high aspirations this year all took one on the chin to start the year. Yeah, it wasn’t to the Bills, but it makes me feel a little better. Atlanta looks to be an offensive juggernaut, which I’m OK with since Julio is in my WR corps. I was happy with some RB developments this week. If you remember, which you probably don’t, I went into week 1 with one starting RB. Yes, Forte produced big time for me, but I got lucky on the waiver wire picking up Jonathan Dwyer. I beat LA AL my about 10 minutes to that pickup… Although Dwyer didn’t really help me week 1, wIth that foot injury, Elllington may be shaky all year. I’m glad I didn’t get him, and based on week 1 results, I’m glad I didn’t get MJD and Bernard Pierce, as they both looked like crap. Another RB that I wanted in the draft that I did NOT get was Terrance West. As I expected, Tate already got hurt, and West will be stepping in. He already stepped in to the tune of 100 yards in week 1. Thankfully, the guy who DID draft him, dropped him earlier in the week. Who was there with open arms welcoming him to the Chicago Blitz? You got it. I have options at RB now.
There has already been plenty of waiver wire activity. With all the Week 1 overreactions, I thought for sure Allen Hurns would be picked up; he wasn’t… maybe I should pick him up??? Although there was plenty of activity, there were not as many players dropped that shouldn’t have been dropped. I’m a little disappointed. I’ll remain patient, sit back, and hope to bolster my depth with one of those incorrectly dropped guys…somebody will do it… soon. All the time, I’m just improving my team and its assets, setting myself up for the first trade of the year. In case I didn’t mention this, I LOVE to trade. Yeah, I may make mistakes, but it’s fun as hell. Usually I have many willing trade partners, although they always think I’m trying to swindle them. I’m all about win-win… with a slight advantage to myself of course.
The NFL is back and it feels so good. A Bears loss dampered the excitement, but it just makes me more hungry for the Bears to get their first W this week. I hope the Bears are as hungry for a W as I am…

I just picked up Hurns. He is probably better than two of my receivers. We will see

Keep dreaming! Remember what happened to our fearless Bears the last time they visited S.F.!
