September 10, 2024: New Games

We wait and we wait and we wait until Week 1 of the NFL season gets here. We talk about this that and the other, and repeat about 10x, regarding those games we’re so anxiously waiting for. Well, let’s just say I’m glad that’s over with. Finally, we can start talking about some new games in Week 2. But before we get there…

With the high expectations for the NFL to deliver in Week 1, did the games deliver? I feel like it’s almost exhausting when Sunday finally comes and everything is going on. We got the Bears game first and foremost, the Survivor contest (don’t have to worry about that any more), multiple teams in Fantasy Football, and of course, betting on the games; Sunday is truly fun day. You can’t win it all though. After the Bears W, a positive week in betting, and 2 Fantasy Football wins, there had to be an offset; getting knocked out of the survivor pool was my true-up for the week, besides losing one of my FF matchups. Will there be a week when all goes right?

Speaking about things going right, I mean, wrong, how about that Jordan Love injury? Looks like he escaped without serious injury, which is good… seriously… because I want the Bears to knock his ass out when we play him. Stay upright Love; see you soon. The Bears of course didn’t escape without injury too, a similar one at that with Rome Odunze; he’ll miss some time most likely… sucks for the rook. There are a number of other minor injuries throughout the league; guess not so bad considering how some seasons go… a war of attrition at times, fantasy rosters rocked… well, Puka being on the IR does hurt some. Staying healthy is of critical importance for a lot of these teams, unless you’re the Niners who announced before the game CMAC was out (but they knew Friday???), and didn’t skip a beat smashing Rodgers and the Jets in Week 1. Although I don’t think the Niners will be as good, they’ll still be in the playoffs again; the Jets… a lot of people’s darkhorse… I think they’ll be OK too, battling for a wild card spot at the end of the day.

The Lions looked good; I think they’re even better than what they showed on Sunday night vs the Rams. I really do think this is a Super Bowl good team; thank you Jameson Williams for that TD. The Rams… well, their defense was better than expected, so maybe they will be in the hunt for a wild card spot after all. The shockers of the week were of course the Pats and the Steelers; fade next week? The big losers of the week were of course the Bengals and the Falcons; worried about them yet? Yes, in the NFL, more than any other sport, due to the limited number of regular season games, the overreactions are overflowing. From one week to the next, your team is either in the shitter or on its way to the Super Bowl; it’s really crazy. Act accordingly.

OK, enough about Week 1. I’m really excited to look at the Week 2 games. The Bears will be up against it on Sunday night in Houston for sure; our defense will surely be tested. On offense, some improvement from Caleb would be nice to see; little by little… And then there’s the 15 other games starting with Buffalo at Miami on Thursday night; actually a really good game! The Bills kicked their ass twice last year and stole the division from them down the stretch; think the Dolphins remember that? Hello Week 2…
