I can’t wait for the NFL; the College Game is a nice appetizer though… not only at the start of the season, but every Saturday from here on out. Of course, there will be games on other days throughout the season, for both football outfits; we are entering the time of season that can only be defined as football paradise.
Week 0 was last week; that’s kind of funny. It was the start of the College Football season, but not really. Week 1 kicked off on Thursday night and will continue through Monday night. Who you got?
I never really had a College team per se; my alma mater doesn’t have one… thanks DePaul. I guess the closest to that would be Notre Dame. I root for the local teams of course… Illinois, Northwestern… but when are they really any good? Darnell Autry, Jeff George… I remember those teams. Even Notre Dame really hasn’t been good for a minute; I do remember Rick Mirer and Jerome Bettis… the Rocket… Tony Rice I believe. Mostly the Irish come up short though in recent history; will this year be different for them? Well, if Saturday night’s win at Texas A&M is any indication, maybe. The schedule is weak; 12 teams get in. It almost feels like a lock the Irish will be in the first ever 12 team playoff in College Football. How they’ll do when they get there is another story.
I guess my favorite college football team this year will be the one that wins me the most money. I did have some dollars on ND on Saturday night; that was nice… especially considering I had Clemson and West Virginia earlier in the day. USC came through like champs on Sunday night vs LSU; I can’t believe I was actually rooting for them. I used to hate USC. When I moved out to California, there was no NFL team in LA… it was USC football all day every day; it was sickening. I thought how can a big ass city like LA have zero NFL teams; how pathetic seeing people walk around on Sundays with different jerseys on. But they did have USC… and they were like a professional team back then, getting paid and all… but now that’s all OK, funny. Anyways, they were rivals of ND furthermore, and I hated Pete Carroll… but that Brian Kelly, man, he seems pretty bad. I think LSU will be OK this year, but USC… tough schedule and all, but… that last game of the season vs ND is looking mighty juicy after one week.
Week 2 will bring another full slate for college, but before that, the NFL season will kick off on Thursday night; I haven’t been this excited about an NFL season in a long time, for various reasons, none more important than the prospects of DA Bears having a decent year. I am ready right this second; don’t have to wait too much longer. College will then take a back seat, but not forgotten by any means… give me all the football you got!
