There’s no disputing it: the Cubs have had their chances. From all the guys in scoring position to the opportunities to put some distance between us and everybody else, the Cubs can only look in the mirror when asking themselves why. After what transpired in Wrigley on Saturday and Sunday, it’s quite apparent, as if we didn’t already know, this season is going to come down to the wire. The Cubs missed another opportunity, this time to put the Brewers away, as they got skunked for the entire weekend.
I think back to that road trip..yeah, which one…haha. It was the one after the 5-1 homestand, the one where we swept the Brewers. It was August 7th and we were in first place. It was our chance to increase our lead, and put some of our road demons behind us. We salvaged a 4-6 trip after winning the last two against the Pirates, but the Cardinals had heated up…they haven’t cooled off. First place was up for grabs again, and is now a few games out of our reach. Then came this past Friday, when the Cubs bats battered the Brewers 7-1 in the series opener. With a chance to bury the Brewers, to put one nail in their coffin, the Cubs failed to score a run the rest of the series. That is inexcusable…
Just so frustrating, but that is the 2019 Cubs. You can never guess what this team will do night in and night out. From looking like world beaters to looking like cellar dwellers…going from unbeatable to a team that can’t score a run at home…from sucking on the road to sweeping the Mets this past week. You can’t figure these guys out. Who would have guessed the Cubs wouldn’t scratch across another run against the crap that is the Brewers pitching staff? Pissed me off.

Damn Reds, winning late in 3 of the 4 games only to lose 2 of them, and drop 3 out of 4 in the doubleheader weekend. They can beat us, but they can’t beat anybody else. Thank you…thank you very much.
But it’s not their fault. That’s what happens when you’re relying on somebody else to get it done. No, this is 110% on the Cubs themselves; there is nobody else to blame. If the Cubs can’t get it together and make the playoffs, shame on them. If they make the playoffs via wild card, and then have the whole season come down to 1 game, that’s our own damn fault. Now if the Cubs can overcome all this crap and find an ounce of consistency as the calendar turns to September, then great…that would be great. Certainly they won’t lose to the crap ass Mariners the next two games in Wrigley. Go Cubs!
