As the clocked ticked down on the Monday nighter, Week 5 of the NFL was over. It started really great with a Bears W, and ended really great with a Packers L. Where to begin?
Well, we’ve talked about the Bears enough; still have the good feeling produced only by a Bears win. Will enjoy this at the very least until Sunday afternoon. So, let’s talk Packers, shall we? Oh man… for those folks that may have crowned Jordan Love after his Game 1 performance against us, I’m sorry; let’s not get him fitted for that gold jacket just yet OK? The Packers look bad, really bad, and for this, I am happy. I’m sure Jordan Love, who has already spent years on the bench, watching, learning, will eventually turn into that 3rd straight HOF QB (wink wink), but for now, woof! What a dog he is. Outside of the Lions, who won again on Sunday, our division is a dumpster fire. Which team will extinguish their flames and finish 2nd in the division? Well, I’d like to think that will be the Bears; Sunday will be a good indicator when we host the Vikes. Meanwhile, the Packers head to the bye week with another ugly loss.
I’ll tell you one team that doesn’t have to worry about that. The 49ers absolutely stomped the life out of the Cowboys on Sunday night; I didn’t see that coming. I thought the Boys would give them a good game; I can’t believe I was tricked into believing another over-hyped Dallas team. The Niners though… sheesh; they look good… really good. Looking around the NFC at the other undefeated team, the Eagles, should provide a part 2 to last year’s NFC Championship game; that would be fun. Outside of those two… maybe the Lions? Yeah, the Lions. At 4-1, they can put it on cruise control to win the NFC North, but knowing their coach, I imagine the Lions will beat a lot more teams like they did Carolina on Sunday. Thanks btw for that Detroit… keeping our #1 draft pick right where it needs to be.
In the AFC, can we announce the death of the New England Patriots? At 1-4, they look bad, as does Tom Brady’s replacement Mac Jones; talk about another dog… woof! What you gonna do now Belicheat? The Chiefs, who work closely with Papa Vegas and the refs, are the front runners again, but I do expect the Bills to be there; I’m not counting out the Bengals either, who finally came to life this weekend. Sure, the Dolphins have looked great, and the Jags had a nice W over the Bills, but can’t really see them going to the big game, but who knows.
The NFL is king; hard to see this will change, unless Papa Vegas gets too obvious with the officials. Even some straight up BS in our face is allowed… don’t push it. I can only imagine if the scripting ever became public… that would be about the only thing that could tear down the NFL. Until then, heck, they’re doing a pretty good job, although I’d like for them to pencil in a few more Bears wins… Yes, loving football… keep it coming!
