October 9, 2016: Bears Are Still Playing

That’s a statement, not a question, although it could have been one considering  what this season has looked like so far. They can thank the Cubs as the reason they’re not catching my full wrath; they’re lucky to get some attention at this point.

I didn’t even do the preview blog this week. If I did, I would have picked against them; I would have been right.  I didn’t even see one play in this game. I’m kind of glad I didn’t.

I was still out of town, hanging in New York on this Sunday; still flying high after those first two Cubs wins.  No need to hunt down a bar that has the NFL package so that I could watch the Bears just to get mad. I didn’t need the Bears raining on this parade; they did anyways.

I had to rely on the text messages again to get me through this game. I was watching a bit of the Steelers Jets game.  That pissed me off too. That pisses me off because I see teams move the ball so well on offense.  In this case, it was the Steelers, who like the Pats & Pack, are a team that has no shortage of plays on the offensive side of the ball. I guess Hoyer did ok this week.

I should have grabbed him off waivers to help cover my Palmer concussion Bortles bye week situation.  I went with Tannenhill; never, again. I still look like I’m going to pull it out this week; that would be a 3-2 start to the season. Much better than the 1-4 start that the Bears got.

I got a chance to play some Madden while out in NYC. It had been a while, but this was my game. Many, many, many, many nights spent playing Madden all night long. Plenty of classic games…  So when I took the sticks for the first time in at least 5 years, it came back to me like riding a bike. I taught these three young bucks a thing or two; undefeated was I. The first lesson was the importance of running the football. I explained how if you don’t stick to the run, you become much easier to defend. Most guys can’t stick to the run.  That was something I hear the Bears had in common this past Sunday.  Jordan Howard was running well, just not enough. I also shared my favorite short yardage play; the FB dive of course. Money in the bank. Another play that might be valuable to the Bears instead of lining up empty backfield in a short yardage situation. The one thing I couldn’t get right was the kicking. I missed many extra points.  That reminds me of the Bears kicker missing FGs. That still pisses me off.

Altough the Bears lost, and they suck, you know I still represented and played with them every single game. And yes, I still wore my Bears jersey on Sunday. Like I said, I was a Bears fan long before these guys played with the team, and I’ll be one long after. But I can say this; it really sucks right now.  If it wasn’t for the Cubs…

That’s what it’s all about right now anyways. Cubs, Cubs, Cubs, across the board; saving the Bears from that square spotlight and ruthless verbal drubbing.

So yes, the Bears are still playing, but I’m barely noticing.  Go Cubs!
