OK, so the Bears and everything else is going to get put on the backburner for now. The Cubs are in the playoffs, and frankly, I can’t focus on anything else.
I love all my Chicago teams, but for the next month, I would trade a loss for each and every one of them for each and every game for the Cubs road to glory. It doesn’t mean I love them any less, it’s all about priorities. A Cubs World Series title is THE #1 priority in my sports life right now; it’s the only thing that I have left to see.
The Cubs win on Wednesday night was a big one. Surviving the winner take all was just the first step though; well, actually the 2nd step, since making it into the postseason had to happen before that, but you know what I mean. Now comes the Cardinals…
Man do I hate the Cardinals. There is only one team I hate more than them in the sports world. Now, we face them for a chance to advance to the NLCS. For the first time ever, the Cubs and Cards will meet in the postseason; that’s pretty cool. It will be even more cooler when we kick their ass.
Yes, they won 100 games this year. Yes, they have more World Series titles than any other NL team. Yes, they make this Cubs Cards rivalry not so much of a rivalry due to their domination over the years. Yes, I get all that. But, I have a feeling like the tide will finally be turning… I have a feeling that they are a little vulnerable; they haven’t been playing their best baseball as of late. Does this mean we will walk right through them, no… hell no. This will be a battle until the bitter end.
Yet, I feel like the Cubs have a great shot at them right now. I hope I was right; that the winner of Wednesday night’s wild card game would be the NL representative in the World Series. I really did think the Pirates were better than St. Louis. The Cubs are hot right now. 8 in a row to end the regular season, and now 9 after Wednesday’s victory. They are peaking at the right time maybe… that peak has been the last 2 months I guess.

I don’t feel as nervous for today’s game, but I still can’t wait to see what will transpire. I feel as though it’s supposed to be like this. We’re supposed to have to go through the Cardinals to get where we’re going. This is part of the process. Yes, we didn’t win the division, but now we have our first shot at dethroning them. Beating them in the first ever playoff series between the two clubs, will finally give us a “one up” on them, besides Wrigley Field of course. A series win here will help forget about the past… at least for us fans. In the big scheme of things, it’s not the ultimate, but it’s damn near close.
The celebration after the wild card game was crazy. Beating the Cards would be more crazy. Yet, we’d still have the NLCS and World Series to go. What if we don’t beat them?
I don’t want to be a buzz kill, so I won’t. Obviously, we know that’s a possibility, but I really do like our chances against them. Game 1 is HUGE. Lackey vs Lester. It’s time for Lester to be the guy we paid for. THIS is the time we got him for. It’s these type of moments. He needs to be big. If we can get this first one, I will like our chances even more. With Jake waiting for Game 3 in Wrigley… a 2-1 lead will almost be a certainty. What if we came home up 2-0???
I feel like I’m just babbling on now; not really doing a good blog. My excitement has taken over, and I am not thinking clearly. For God’s sake, it’s October and the Cubs are playing baseball people!!!
Yes, this may be normal for the Cards, but far from it for us. It’s time to get to that level. It’s time to knock the Cards down a rung, and claim our perch atop the NL, for this year, and for the years to come. Tonight is the first chapter of that story.
