Checking in on the MLB playoffs after Sunday’s action has the best team in the majors pushed to the brink. The Rangers, after sweeping the Rays, have taken the first two games in Baltimore against the Orioles. I knew the O’s would have a tough time, but didn’t think they’d be down 0-2 heading back to Texas for Game 3 on Tuesday. I wanted the Orioles to make the World Series; haven’t given up on them yet. I wouldn’t mind if Texas goes either, so really, a no lose situation for me, other than the 2 bets I’ve lost on the Orioles thus far. Three time’s a charm? Well, if you believe in the Orioles track record of NOT getting swept recently… I’m there.
On the other side of the AL bracket, the Twins have tied the series with the Astros; now it heads back to Minnesota. Love Pablo Lopez btw; I’ve had him on my fantasy teams in the past. He’s dealing right now, as is the Game 3 starter for the Twins, Sonny Gray. They’re really the two headed monster; will they be enough to help the Twinkies past the Astros, or will the Astros offense and postseason experience rise to the top? I prefer the Twins moving on, although looking ahead, if the Rangers close the O’s out, a Rangers-Astros series would be juicy. I’m on Sonny in Game 3 though…
In the NL, rooting against both of the top seeds turned out to be a good thing in both Game 1s; now only if I had bet on that… Yeah, the Phillies jumped on the Braves, as did the D-backs on the Dodgers. Hard to believe in a way. You just have to think the big boys will put a stop to this and get the series back to even in both cases. It may not sound appealing to everyone, but a Phillies-Dbacks NLCS would be just fine with me.
It would be finer with me if the Cubs had made it to the postseason; still kind of sucks they’re not. I would have loved to give all the guys a taste of the postseason, although some of them already have been there. I think Justin Steele more than anybody. He seems like he’s built for that. To have seen him start a game in the Wild Card round would have been really cool; guess we’ll have to wait a year?
The Sox on the other hand… is that championship window still open? Have to imagine big changes on the south side of things, but they are sticking with their manager. Yes, the new GM with zero experience will help shape the path of the future for this underachieving team. Although the manager will be the same, hard to believe all the guys will be back. Changes are a must.
OK, enough baseball… let’s check in on the rest of the NFL action this weekend.
