It’s that time of year. The postseason has started, and my team is on the couch again. What’s a guy to do? Well, it’s time to root against the teams I hate, of course. When it comes to baseball, there are plenty of options, but numero uno by far, only surpassed by 1 other team in all of sports when it comes to hate, is the St. Louis Cardinals. Yeah, they have a hate file, duh, but on Friday afternoon, this team that I hate so much, brought a big smile to my face.
Welcome to Hater’s Paradise; shout out to Coolio RIP. I was riding the train home from work, and I checked in on the games. When I brought up the score, I saw the Phillies had cut the lead in half, were trailing 2-1 in the 9th inning, 1 out, with the bases loaded….oooh boy. Come on Phillies. They had actually got the first out in the inning, were 2 outs away from winning Game 1 in the Wild Card series. The Cardinals were 93-0 when leading by 2 runs or more entering the 9th inning of a postseason game. First off, 93 postseason wins… damn… I remember a reason I hate them. Yeah, well, how does 93-1 sound? The Phillies went on to score 6 in the inning and essentially bury them. I felt so comfortable with that lead, I sent a text to my brother in celebration. I got off the train, was walking… next time I checked in, it was 6-3, 2 outs, with soon to be retiring Yadier Molina at the plate as the potential tying run. No.. no fricking way. Strike three, he’s out, game over… thank you for starting my weekend off on the right foot!
I was in my hating glory. Twitter was pretty awesome, with stuff like Cardinal fans haven’t been this upset since Trump lost, or imagine being a Cardinal fan, enduring this loss, and still awaiting word on your trial from storming the Capitol on January 6th… classic. I saw videos, of the “best fans in baseball” leaving the stadium as the Phils piled the runs on in the top of the 9th… wow, just wow. I had seen things earlier in the day that tickets were $1 to get into the game… a playoff game… in St. Louis… shaking my damn head. I was in my glory… the last time I had this feeling was when Robbie Gould kicked the FG to knock out the Pack in last year’s playoffs. The only thing not as good as that night, is that the Cardinals are still alive…
I got a chance to watch the highlights on MLB Network this morning… loving it! Standing O for Pujols every time up, zero hits, including a double play that he barely made it down the line for. I saw Arenado misplay a ball in the 9th. I saw their closer crumble in the 9th, while their manager just sat there and watched…. then he complained about an injury… of course… haha. Let’s just say I was shocked they blew the lead, but not that they lost; they are a fraud of a playoff team. Whether it’ll be on Saturday, Sunday, or the next series, the Cards are going down. It’s only a matter of time.
Until then, I’ll patiently wait; waiting to check that box on my 2022 MLB wishlist. With the Cubs sucking this year, watching the playoffs like me from the couch, the #1 priority becomes seeing the Cardinals lose. Let me tell you… I won’t forget this day any time soon. Thank you Phillies, now finish the job.

Not to bring up old memories, but when the Cubs beat the turd-birds in 2016, that was almost as good as the WS win. Not gonna lie, I was not even thinking WS, just beat these MFers, and that would have been enough that year… the WS was the cherry on top.
Phils are going to beat “insert name here” but I will be watching for Pujols, the guy deserves it and I hope he hits 4 HRs, but end up losing 5 to 4…hahahaha!

Yep, that playoff win over the Cards in 2015 was beautiful.
I didn’t watch; don’t care about Poo-Holes, Molina, Wainwrong… glad we don’t have to hear about them any more.
