It’s bad enough the Cubs went out like they did. I mean, losing game 163 AND losing the wild card game on back to back days, only scoring 1 run in each of those games? I’m just starting to get over it. But it’s pretty obvious I’m not going to be able to watch any baseball the rest of the way out… this is shaping up for an ugly ending.
Usually, once my team gets eliminated, whether in the regular season by not making the playoffs, or getting knocked out once we get there, I have another team I wouldn’t mind seeing win it. “Wouldn’t mind” are the key words, because once my team is out, it’s a process of elimination. It’s the lesser of multiple evils that I have to root for. Sometimes a team can make it into my heart for eliminating a team that I hate; I made a list of those teams before. There’s always some outcome that I can get behind… one that will make me feel a bit better about my team’s fate this year. This MLB season though… ugh!
The Brewers have already advanced. I definitely don’t want them winning; that’s for damn sure. Screw them. Yet, on the other side of the bracket we will most likely have the Dodgers; holy crap. Talk about a no win situation. Yes, the Braves still are alive, and I would definitely get behind them from here on out, but that’s not likely. The Dodgers will wrap this up one way or another. And that would leave the National League dead to me. Moving on to the AL…
I don’t want the Astros to repeat, simple. I don’t mind them in general; I like a lot of their players. But, they were mouthing off earlier in the year about how “we’re not the Cubs” in talking about how they would avoid the hangover and win again this year. I don’t want to see that happen. The Cubs didn’t do it, so you can’t either, OK? So that eliminates the Astros… although… that series is NOT over yet. If the Indians could come back, I would support them fully; they are actually the team I would want to win it all, you know, having the longest drought of any team currently. Can they come back from down 2-0? Unlikely, although they did have a 3-1 lead in the World Series, and the other team came back to win; who was that again???

Finally, it’s the Yankees vs the Red Sox. Am I really going to have to root for whoever wins THIS series? Wow. The Red Sox have won more than enough lately; no need for them to add any titles. And then the Yankees? As if 27 isn’t enough? This really sucks.
So yeah, go Braves and go Indians, but in all likelihood, the final four teams will be the Brewers, Dodgers, Astros, and Red Sox or Yankees. Which team is the lesser evil there? Who can you get behind as a Cubs fan? I guess I’d have to root for the AL worst case… I can’t find myself rooting for the Brewers or Dodgers; that’s out.
When I was watching some of the playoff action, I was sitting there thinking “I still can’t believe the Cubs aren’t playing”. It’s weird that our season is over. It sucks. And now what? Who will be the 2018 World Series Champions? Can MLB go on strike right now, so the answer is nobody?

Ugly ending…no doubt about it. To go down swinging and scoring 2 runs in 2 games is bad. The Cubs scored 1 run or less in a quarter of their games. It was either feast or famine, but 40+ games of 1 run or less is completely unacceptable. Somebody has to take the fall for this…thinking bout you chili!
As for the remaining teams, I have not watched any further baseball yet. I’m sure I will, but I like none of the remaining 4 teams. If I had to go with one of the, it would be boston. Do not really care for the red sux, but they have been the best team all year long. To do it wire to wire would be ok. Do not want the astros to repeat, although that would be better than the dodgers or brewcrew winning it. The nl is completely dead to me…I’m out!
