After Monday Night Football concluded, we are officially five weeks through the NFL season; time flies when you’re having fun. Although this week wasn’t as bad, meaning crazy upsets, it still had its share. Let’s run through the league really quick.
The biggest upsets were Frisco and Seattle going down; these two teams will play on Thursday night, the first game of Week 6. I actually bet on the Cardinals plus the points at San Fran; I didn’t realize they would win outright. The Niners now have a losing record; that’s really crazy. Yes, I know CMC hasn’t played, and they have had their share of other injuries, but man… 2-3!?!? Seattle on the other hand is coming back to earth I guess, after their 3-0 start. Are the Giants actually OK? They did this without Nabers AND their starting RB… on the road at Seattle! Impressive win for sure, for both of these big dogs. Thursday’s night’s NFC West tilt will go a long way in determining the winner of that division IMO.
The Steelers losing to a Cowboys team that was down 2 key dudes on defense was surprising. I started watching that game, but after seeing Pittsburgh call a running play for Justin Fields on the first play of the game… I’ve watched this movie before. Fields is an athlete; nobody can dispute that. Is he a starting NFL QB? Well, sounds like Wilson will be inserted as the starter when he’s healthy, which sounds like it will be soon. Justin can surely carve out a role as a backup QB in this league, more so than Trubisky. If/when he ever has to come in, he will present a whole new set of challenges for the defense; he may be able to get a win or two. Long term though? I hope I’m wrong; I wish him well. But… I don’t think so.
How sick are you of the Chiefs? They won again, this time on MNF, over a probably overrated Saints team. All KC does is win; the Mahomes and Reid combo is good, very good… so good that I hate them; they’ve won too much already. Looking throughout the rest of the NFL, and taking into account how banged up they are on offense, they shouldn’t be invincible, although it’s really their defense that has been the star.
The Commanders keep rolling; I keep waiting for them to come back to earth. It would seem that going into Baltimore would be the time this week, but… maybe not. The Jags got their first win of the season, the last team to do so; they will be back on the losing side of things this week in London… we can only hope. Vikings and Packers both won; the NFC North is shaping up to be the best division in football, no joke. Any one of the 4 teams can make the playoffs; I do think Detroit still wins the division though. Minnesota can’t keep going at this rate.
Just can’t get enough football. Between the NFL, and college this year, which has been really good, it’s the best time of year for sports. Throw in the MLB playoffs and the start of the NBA and NHL seasons… sit back and enjoy!
