October 7, 2022: Week 5 Preview at Vikings

posted in: Bears | 2

OK, back to football. Week 5 brings us our 2nd divisional matchup of the year, as the 2-2 Bears head to Minnesota to take on the Vikings. How you feeling?

The world can be a depressing place; you have to fight through that shit. Same goes with the Bears, and their current predicament. Bears suck! Fields is garbage! Our offense is dogshit! We’re not going to win again this year! Fight… through… it. Sure, I don’t think anyone predicted a Super Bowl for our boys this year, but for God’s sake… we’re 2-2! We’ve already won 2 games, which is about how many some predicted for us before the season. Fields hasn’t even played a full season’s worth of games; he is in a new offense. We don’t have many WRs for him. Our OL is a work in progress. Sure, he hasn’t looked good; nobody is going to argue that, but I’ve seen flashes… big arm, athletic ability, desire to get better, to win… let’s be patient, yeah?

We can be patient, but the NFL waits for no one. The Bears will enter Sunday’s tilt as 7 point dogs; that feels about right. Actually, the more I think about it, it feels like not enough points; the Vikes should seemingly be favored by about 10 or so, especially with their running game and our run defense. Their defense against our offense is advantage Minny too. We do play well against Cousins, but if I’m the Vikings, I’m pounding the rock with Cook and Mattison. The Bears Giants game was a toss up. We moved the ball decently enough, but came away with FGs instead of TDs; that won’t get it done. We’ll need more than just FGs to win this game, which I think, go figure, will be closer than some think.

It’s the “bet on the opposite” strategy with this one. If I’d have to guess, I’d say most folks are pounding the Vikings to cover against us, PLUS using them in teasers, etc, with them only having to win to “cover”. Well, maybe there’s something else in store… Vikings probably aren’t even taking this matchup seriously; that will bite you right in the ass. OK, I know I’m reaching here, but stay with me. An unmotivated team favored by a strangely low number at home against an inferior team… it could work, right?

Final Score Predictor: Bears 27 Vikings 26

Ace In The Hole: Justin Fields 3 total TDs (hey, I have to be right one of these weeks)

It’s a choice, staying positive; you are in control of it… only you. You can certainly choose to open your eyes and see the grim reality of the Bears season, but I choose to close them! Wait… that came out wrong. It’s more of, let’s just say… half empty vs half full philosophy. It’s embracing the rebuild (for this year only) before adding a ton of talent next year with all that cap space; coupling that additional talent with the “culture” developed by Eberflus of hustle, hustle, hustle, and yeah, Bears back in the playoffs NEXT year. Come on… it could happen. Bear Down!!!
