Well that shouldn’t have took this long. Finally, Nagy came to his senses and named Justin Fields the Bears starter indefinitely. I have a feeling that press conferences going forward will be a lot less frustrating.
Pretty much everybody that I talked to felt this way. Pretty much everybody on TV, radio, and the internet felt this way. I don’t always agree with the majority, and I definitely don’t always agree with the talking heads in the media, but… in this case, heck yeah I agreed. It feels good to not have to talk about this any longer.
To be honest, I think Nagy saved his job by making this decision. The week to week stress of hearing about how Andy Dalton was going to be our starter when he was healthy after seeing what Fields can do on the field… it was so high, that any loss could have meant the end. Like if the Bears lost to the Lions this past Sunday; if they had looked like they did against Cleveland… it could have been Nagy’s ass. The combination of quitting the dumb Dalton shit and turning over the play calling to Lazor just saved Nagy. I knew he wasn’t that dumb.

This shouldn’t have been that hard Matt. Were you really trying to protect Fields? I guess I can see that for a quick minute; if that was truly, truly the reason… Maybe that was your plan heading into this year, but… things change. Once Dalton got hurt, all bets were off. Once we got a taste of Fields at QB, we wouldn’t settle for anything less than everything. Here’s the other thing: he gives us the best chance to win. I firmly believe this. Will he be perfect? No. Will he make mistakes? Yes. But there is no time like the present to put your best players on the field, the players that give you the best chance to win; I don’t understand the alternative, unless we’re talking about service time in MLB or tanking in the NBA.
The great thing is we’re 500; I had us at 1-3 heading into this week when Fields would be taking over at QB. I’m glad I was right about Fields; I’m glad I was wrong about our record at the time. I honestly think that with Fields at QB, the Bears have a chance to make the playoffs. More than just that of course: the future is NOW. We get to see Justin play week in week out, and regardless of his performance, he is here to stay for the foreseeable future. Whatever negatives come out of the rest of this season will be on the Bears to fix, to do everything they can do to put the best team around him, to set him up in the best possible position to succeed. Big breath…
The whole Dalton was starting when healthy was getting on the side of insanity; I’m glad he came to his senses, whether that was on his own or not. Turning over the play calling, smart too. Now we can focus on Fields and our future, which oh yeah… starts on Sunday in none other than Las Vegas… viva Fields!
