Saturday night came, and I continued trying to watch as much of the Blackhawks game as I could.  It was a very entertaining game.  Toews had scored 2 goals, both off rebounds.  He does his best work in front of the net.  Kane tallied another.  Kruger had a nice goal too, following up on a Kane miss.  Yet, the Blues had seemingly every answer.  Heading into the middle of the 3rd period tied at 4, which way would this game go?

I recorded it.  I almost never do that.  I mean, if I’m going to miss it, I’m going to miss it.  I’ll catch up… watch highlights, read recaps, etc.  But no, I wanted to see how this one would finish.  It’s only game 2 of the season; I’m not going to be getting any texts to ruin it for me, although sure enough, my brother did text me if I knew who won.  I told him no, I’m watching it now, don’t tell me…  Of course, I had to stay off Twitter for a minute too, no biggie.  My son was in bed, and we got ourselves situated in the basement.  Now, I was ready to watch the end of the game.

The Blues poured it on, but the Blackhawks held.  We had almost nothing going late in the third period.  We made it to OT, for the 2nd straight game; at least we got 1 point out of it.  Then Toews got sprung for a breakaway, after a nice block by Saad.  Come on Captain!

He shoots, he scores… hat trick!!!  Hawks win.  I was happy that I recorded it, to see this finish the way it did.  Hawks are 2-0; I was pretty tuned in to them so far.

Then came Sunday night.  The way the day went, it was church Sunday night… yes church.  The last mass of the weekend, and then we stopped at a restaurant to eat.  My son was off school Monday, so we stayed out a little later than we normally would.  I remembered the Hawks were on, and yes, I would be missing it.  I’ll tune in once we get home.  The second I tuned it in, the Leafs scored the GWG in OT; 7-6?!?!  Who the heck scored all the goals?  How did we get here?  Damn I missed a good game.  At least we got 1 point… 5 of 6 points to start the season isn’t bad.  Maybe I can watch the rebroadcast.  All thoughts that went through my head.

4 goals in the last 2 minutes plus?!?!  That was crazy.  Of course I saw the Kane goal where he mocked Matthews with the hand by his ear; love it.  Let’s get fired up boys.  Let’s get it rolling now… not try to amp it up down the stretch.  Kane with a couple more goals, Toews with another one… carry us boys.

Yes, it’s nice to have a quick start, but… we know we can’t maintain this without Crow in goal.  3 goals isn’t too bad, but then 4, then 7?  I’m sure Cam Ward can serve as a nice backup, but without a legit #1 goaltender, I fear this will not last.  I don’t think the 5 goals per game average can be maintained.  Supposedly Crow will be on the ice in a couple weeks… seeing is believing.

But let’s not worry about that too much, yet.  Let’s enjoy this while we can.  If the Hawks take 5 of 6 points the rest of the way out, we’ll end up with over 130 points; just like the 5 goals per game, that ain’t going to happen.  We’re on the right track though…  Have to wait until Thursday to see them again, on the road, in Minnesota.  Go Hawks!

Who doesn’t like some goal scoring in hockey? I sure do, especially when I’m there in person. 5 goals a game through the first 3 is nice and should have gotten the Hawks all 6 points. Let’s face it, Cam Ward is a serviceable backup goalie…not a starter! Crow cannot come back and be healthy soon enough. If he is, watch out. Yes, the Hawks will go through their goal scoring slumps. Toews with a hat trick! Kane off to a hot start, too. Batman and Robin back in action early, which is a good thing. Set the tone. Keep shooting. A healthy Crow might be just what the Hawks ordered. Time to beat the wild up in minny! Keep the goals coming and GO HAWKS!!!
