I can’t remember the last time I watched a Bears game and felt totally at peace. Thank you to the Carolina Panthers for being one of the door mats in the NFL. I’m not discounting the Bears impressive victory on Sunday afternoon at Soldier Field; I’m just stating facts. The Bears will get the last team in the NFL to get a win next week in London when they face the Jacksonville Jaguars.
I guess we should say Thank You to the NFL schedule makers? Playing this easy schedule early in the year is certainly welcomed for a rookie QB, who by the way, is improving each week. Caleb looked great in this one. The schedule will get tougher. As things are starting to shake out in the NFL, we may have to realize another fact: our division may be the toughest in the NFL. Yes, all 6 division games begin on November 17th; that should be fun. By then, if the progress continues, we should be able to hold our own.
The one thing that makes me the most confident of holding our own is our defense; I just haven’t realized that after this week’s mauling of the Panthers. A very nice stat flashed across the screen during the game. The Bears defense have allowed 21 or fewer points in 10 straight games; this, along with our 8 game home winning streak, is the longest in the NFL. The Bears are doing some things right; the Bears are doing some things very well. I’m just stating facts.
After the Panthers jumped out to a 7-0 lead, the Bears outscored them 36-3. Yes, I would say it was a beat down. Andy Dalton… don’t miss him. And just think, the Panthers had to turn to him over their #1 draft pick to lead the team… and they’ve played much better… just not today. Nope, not on our home turf; not on this day. Derrick Rose was in the house. Shota Imanaga was in the house. Angel Reese was in the house. Tickets to get in… started at $200 a piece. I’m going to have to chuck it up eventually to get my son to a game. Hopefully a big snow storm game… seems so far away with the weather still being so nice here in Chicago. It’s coming though.
This Sunday morning was anything but easy for me. In my severely hungover state, my outward physical appearance finally matched what my insides have looked like during this past 6 months. Yes, 6 months to the day that my mother has passed away. Time flies when you’re having fun… Hey, at least the Bears made it OK for a few hours this afternoon; I thank them for that. Looking around the rest of the Chicago sports landscape, we may need them to keep this up. London is calling boys; keep it rolling. Bear Down!
