October 5, 2021: Let the Playoffs Begin

posted in: Cubs, White Sox | 2

The 2021 MLB playoffs began on Tuesday night in Boston as the Red Sox hosted the Yankees. I know I just got done talking shit about the Cubs and their season, but I tuned in. After all, I would get to see some familiar faces… and they didn’t disappoint.

Schwarber and Rizzo both went deep. Oh my God… this is so horrible. It’s making me so sad. Why? Why? Give me a break. I was glad to see them do well. F it… the Cubs let them both go; it ain’t their fault. Schwarby wasn’t even part of the trade deadline massacre this year; he was gone way before that, when the Cubs didn’t resign him this offseason. He landed up with the Nationals, and then did eventually get traded on the deadline, to the Red Sox. Good for him! I wasn’t completely heartbroken when the Cubs didn’t resign Kyle; I was pretty pissed when I saw who they brought in as his replacement. Joc Pederson? Really? For that, we COULD have just kept Kyle. We will also see Joc this postseason when he takes the field for the Braves; was happy when they traded him. But back to Schwarbs… if the Cubs were letting him walk, then what was the plan to replace and/or improve on what he brought to the table? That’s the real issue I have. Same with the Darvish move this offseason; we got WHAT back for him? I just don’t get it. I’m happy that Kyle ended up in a good spot, in another city that comes up to support their team like crazy… gets to play in Fenway. I have a reason to root for the Red Sox from here on out.

As far as Rizzo, he should have never worn another uniform; I’ll never change my mind about that. Yeah, go ahead, quote me his playoff stats since 2016; I know… they haven’t been great. None of the guys have been. That’s why the Cubs keep firing their hitting coach, which they did again, right? Haha… Have to find somebody to blame it on; not sure how THIS year was the hitting coach’s problem, but whatever. Glad to see Rizzo hit one out too. For all the anger and disgust I’ve felt this year towards the Cubs, I didn’t feel any of that last night, watching two of our favorite sons do well on the big stage. I knew, that regardless of the result, one of them would be marching on; I hope Kyle keeps crushing it in the ALDS.

As far as the other wild card game, it’s the Dodgers and the Cardinals. Now rarely will I root for the Dodgers, but in this one, it’s a no brainer. F the Cardinals… with their lucky ass winning streak. Please put them in their rightful place and send their asses home. If you don’t, then I know the Giants will. Whichever of the two teams does it, you will earn a small place in my heart for your efforts.

I guess I will be talking some baseball, as long as I continue to follow the postseason, which even with all the shit I talk, I probably will. There will continue to be more ex-Cubs to watch, which will give me reasons to root for certain teams… which will keep me interested for a minute. Go (ex-) Cubs!!!

I agree with the Rizzo part. Wasn’t crying about any of the others, but Rizzo struck a chord. He should have been a Cub for his whole career. Happy to see him do well, and hoping he continues.
