If the Cubs are going to win it all this year, they will have to face many familiar foes.  They will have to play some teams that bring back not so good memories, some teams that have close connections, some teams that have things in common.  It would be an interesting, long and winding road towards that holy grail.  The first opponent will be determined tonight.

Could it be the Giants?  Well, there is some history here.  You may recall a past playoff series vs the Giants in 1989.  It was of course a series loss; it was the series where Will Clark went nuts.  We do have some good memories here too, like 1998, where we beat the Giants in the one game playoff.  Mr. Rod Beck putting the finishing touches on that big victory.  There was another…. from long ago… the year the Cubs won their last World Series.  It was a game in 1908 that is known as Merkle’s Boner.  They were the two best teams that year, and late in the season, there was a game where a base running gaffe on the part of the Giants led the Cubs to a victory.  The Cubs won that year by a game, and went on to win the Wolrld Series.  I had heard of this, but didn’t really know the details until listening to a Giants broadcast about a week ago.  I looked it up and read about it.  There’s even a bar in Wrigleyville named after Merkle.  I thought it was pretty cool.

What about the Mets?  You can go to 1969 if you wish, to bring up some pain and hate, but you don’t have to dig that deep.  Last year is still fresh in my head…  Who would I rather face in the NLDS?  The answer would be the Mets.  The reason is not because I think we can beat them easier or that I’m more worried about the Giants.  The reason is sweet revenge.  It would be great to meet and beat the team that sent us home last year.  The team that taught this Cubs team how to lose.  It would be great to return the favor.  I just remember seeing that face that I hate… Daniel Murphy… oh yeah, he’s gone now…. will we see him on this playoff run?

cialis generico mastercard Jacob Rajfer, a urologist at the University of Florida published a study in the Journal of Sports Medicine recently published a study showing that the beta-sitoserol content in acai regulates lymphocyte function and counteracts immune suppression. 18. Since the problems are of tadalafil mastercard a clandestine nature, they are often brushed inside the carpet. In any case, it is highly recommended levitra 20mg canada to consult healthcare professional. A person experiencing ED lowest price for levitra can purchase the medicine through any of authorised medical pharmacies. The Nationals could be a potential NLCS opponent it we were to win our NLDS.  Daniel Murphy resides there.  There is of course another familiar face on that team.  The guy that will forever be linked to one of the best Cubs team in history, and also one of the worst moments in Cubs history.  It is of course Johnnie B Baker, or Dusty as he is better known by.  Does he still chew those toothpicks?  So Daniel and Dusty, and Kris’ Las Vegas buddy Bryce would all be part of that NLCS story line.  I would like the other one better.

The Dodgers are the team that I would like to meet in the NLCS, for the same reasons that I would like to face the Mets.  Revenge baby… a dish best served cold.  I was there in 2008 when the Dodgers sent that best regular season Cubs team home packing in the NLDS in a quick 3-0 sweep.  Oh yeah, I remember it not so fondly.  To meet and beat that crew would feel really good.  To have the Dodgers serve as our final stepping stone to our first World Series since 1945 would be the best kind of payback.

Yes, the Cubs would have to take care of all family business on the way to the holy grail… and I’m not even getting into the potential story lines of the potential AL match ups, of which there are plenty, of which Baltimore will NOT be a part of after the AL wild card game last night; what a game by the way.  Yes, this road less traveled would be the most interesting; I wouldn’t expect it to be anything less.  Is this Cubs team ready to settle things?  Are they ready to slay all demons that they will face?  This Cubs team can make everything right in our baseball lives.  Do they have what it takes?  We’re about to find out.  We’re also about to find out who that first match up will be.  I’ll be watching tonight, and will be back tomorrow with the series preview.  Are you still relaxed?  The storm after the calm is about to hit.

The best regular season team usually does not do too well in the playoffs. The Cubs are that team. But who cares. New year, new team. Play like you have all year long and NOBODY should beat the Cubs in a series! The time is near. GO CUBS GO!!!
