It was almost 9 months ago that I began this most recent journey in sports gambling; I didn’t think it would last long. My “dabbling” over the years has included many things, like bookies, illegal offshore gambling accounts, betting purely with my heart, betting while drunk, recklessly chasing bets, etc, etc, etc, but one thing it has NEVER included has been discipline. It’s not easy; none of this is. If it were, everybody would be doing it. You think picking winners is easy? Sure, it’s a 50/50 proposition; when 2 people pick opposite sides, someone will be right. Try being right consistently. There are times when I can’t pick one, single, winner… and then there are times like right now, when I am on a pretty good roll. 5-2 this past weekend in the NFL and 4-0 thus far in the MLB playoffs.
I know when I’m on a hot streak you’re supposed to press it, at least that’s what a dealer in Vegas told me way back when sitting at a single deck blackjack table with my brother. Yet, when I start winning, I feel like I get more cautious… don’t blow it man! You see, Papa Vegas doesn’t let anybody away that easy; he’s always waiting to slam you back down to reality. You have to prepare for this, and try to learn from the previous “slams” to make the future slams a little less hurtful. You can’t pick them all right. You WILL go on a cold streak. One thing that I’ve done which has been very helpful is to bet consistent units on each game, regardless of how good or iffy I feel about it. Sure, I’ll dabble a bit, throw an extra bet here or there to take advantage of a bonus, throw a little change in-game if I’m watching, but in general, same play on each game I select; I think it’s important. My goal of course is to continue to increase my bankroll, which in turn, will cause me to bump up my units.
I’m already a winner; that’s what I always tell myself when I’m on a losing streak. This is because I am, and not just because my mama told me. I’ve banked $200 in profit up to this point; I know, no big deal, but hey… it’s better than losing money. I originally banked $250, but needed to pull $50 back out to assist at the start of NFL season. Remember, I was down to $3… my unit plays were $1. I grinded… up to $60, back down to around $10, back up to $50, back down to $30; like I said, it’s not easy, and I take nothing for granted. But yes, the $50 gave me a little flexibility and with my recent hot streak, am proud to say I’m at an all-time high balance (since banking my profit) of $120.34. Woo-hoo… time to retire! Don’t worry the Bears play Thursday night… it’ll be back down soon… haha.
So yeah, the journey continues. I’m comfortable with my unit plays being $5 now; definite progress from my $1 bets. Shit, there were times I bet less than that on a game. When will I raise my units up even more? We’ll see, I hope. Need to maintain, and continue to trend upwards… take me higher!!! With the MLB playoffs, College Football, and the NFL in full swing, plenty of opportunities, but remember, less is more! With a zeroed in focus, you make smarter decisions; again, not easy, especially with the NBA, College Basketball, and the NHL coming soon…. Gambling…. Overload… about… to self- destruct… haha. Good luck to us all!
