October 31, 2015: Rekindling

Happy Halloween.  Did you dress up?  If not, why not?  Not enough time, too old for it, don’t believe in it?  Stop being so lame and get in the spirit.

It’s always been a fun holiday.  Growing up, my mom would always have a Halloween party for all the kids in my family.  Bobbing for apples and pin the tail on the donkey are the games that I remember the most. It was always tons of fun. I tried to keep the tradition going as I got older.

We threw some pretty awesome Halloween parties in the apartment. I think we had 40 people the one year.  Lots of drunken fun, and nobody got hurt too bad. This went on for a number of years.

Now, older and sometimes wiser, we have kids who look forward to Halloween. My sister has kept this tradition alive throwing cool parties with fun and games for all our kids. They had an absolute blast. This was actually the first year my son went trick or treating.  A little rainy, but I still had to carry his bag by the end of it because it was so heavy with candy. After each house, he’d look at me and say “next Halloween house dad?”  Yes son. Good times.

It’s great rekindling that Halloween fun each year. Yeah, I was dressed up. I only threw a mullet on at work on Friday; not too many folks in the spirit. I was Teen Wolf on Saturday thanks to some creative thinking from my wife. Didn’t exactly match up with my son Leonardo the ninja turtle, but I thought it was pretty cool.

Speaking of rekindling, how about the match up of the undefeateds Bulls and Pistons Friday night?  Let’s flash back to the late 80s early 90s when the Bulls and Pistons battled yearly for the Eastern crown. Ok, so it was only the third game of the season, but still had the makings of a rivalry renewed.

Detroit took us out in OT, ending the dream of 82-0 under Hoiberg. It was a good game, and we had a chance to win it, but Drose threw up a brick at the buzzer. He said he was shooting at the wrong basket. Let’s just leave it at that. Gasol played so awesome against the pick and rolls all night, and we let them own the offensive glass; 2 other reasons we lost. A home matchup with the Magic is next.

So far I see the assists down, the rebounds down, and Gasol struggling on defensive switching.  It’s early. Bulls still have the talent on this roster to be really good, and they should be in the weak East; definitely not like it was back in the day. There are teams getting better though, and the Pistons are one of them. The Bulls window is still open, but it’s going to get a little more crowded soon. Not sure we’ll be passing the west any time soon, but at least may be respectable in the next few years.

Can’t believe another Halloween has come and gone. Can’t believe it’s already November. Time flies when you’re having fun, if you’re not paying attention, you may miss something.  I’m just trying to keep my eyes wide open and soak it all in.  Like Pitbul says, every day above ground is a good day. 61 days until 2016.
