Saturday night rolled around and we were locked and loaded on the Bulls game. I can’t lie; I was worried. With the Utah Jazz coming in, I thought it would be a long night; I thought the Bulls were going to get handled. And there’s my son… “Dad, you gotta have faith”… where have I heard that before? Yeah, he’s definitely a chip off the old block, and on this particular night, he was 110% correct.
I liked how the game started off, well, actually before the game. They had this guy in a deep voice do a little 30 second dramatic preview of the game; that was pretty cool. Any time they show some old Bulls Jazz highlights, and by old I mean 1997-1998 vintage, it’s a good thing. The Jazz had some really, really good teams back then. If it weren’t for MJ and the Bulls, they definitely would have won a title; we did that to a lot of good teams. Yeah, it got me a little pumped up. Play ball!
The Bulls started off hanging with the Jazz blow for blow. I was worried about Gobert, who started collecting rebounds like candy on Halloween night. They would have to keep him away from the rim; that reminds me of some bad news. The Bulls lost Patrick Williams for the year after his fall in the Knicks game. Now, he’s outta here, and the already smallish Bulls, were without a significant player of size. As one guy goes out, opportunity is presented to others. Javonte Green has shown some serious hops and hustle; he was awarded the start. One thing he has to do is not commit stupid fouls, so he could stay on the floor. We saw more of Derrick Jones Jr this game than any other, and that turned out to be OK. He had a nice block and dunk; he’ll get more chances to impress. Side note: I like Troy Brown Jr as a player, but in each of the past 2 games, he’s hoisted a Denzel Valentine I think I’m Zach Lavine type shot; ease up kid. OK back to the back up plan for Paw… is the other Bulls draft pick from AKME’s first year far behind? Marko Simonovic sitting in the G league with some size may be here before you know it, although not guessing he’s going to provide that D and rebounds that we need.

The 2nd quarter didn’t end well, as the Jazz stormed back to take the lead. I thought… here we go. The 2nd half is going to be ugly. Then the Bulls surprised me again. They dominated the Jazz in the 3rd quarter; what a switch from the last few years. I don’t know how many more examples of this I need, but this is certainly NOT that team. Yes, the Jazz made a run late in the game, but the Bulls held on, and to my surprise, Vooch made the big shots down the stretch. A big step back three followed by an aggressive drive against Gobert straight up shocked me. Don’t get wrong; he’s a nice player, I just didn’t think he had that big shot type stuff in him. So Lavine, DD, and… Vooch?!?! Hey, we will take it, at least for tonight.
Yeah, the Bulls beat the Jazz on Saturday night at the UC, ending their undefeated season, just as ours was ended on Thursday night. That was a tough loss, but we weren’t going to go 82-0 OK? The Bulls followed that loss up with their most impressive win of the season, another great sign. If you’re not jazzed up about this Bulls team, I don’t know what to tell you. Looking forward to the next time they take the court. Go Bulls!
