October 29, 2022: Five Times Two

posted in: Bulls | 0

The Bulls came into the weekend with a 3-2 record. Heading to San Antonio and back home to host Philly, we were hoping for at least a split. Playing in San Antonio isn’t usually fun, playing against Embid is hopeless, so… how’d they do? The Bulls lost two close games by five points each; five times two is what we’re talking about. And now, the Bulls will enter the next week with a losing record at 3-4. Fun times.

You know the most fun part of the season thus far: left knee management. I sure hope that language was written in the max contract Lavine signed with us. I don’t get it. Yeah, he was hurt and had some stuff done in the offseason, but… before the season began, all we heard was good stuff. OK, cool… looking forward to a big season from Zach. Then, he’s declared out for the first game of the season??? The management of his left knee continued in this back to back. We really could have used him vs the Spurs, but nope… there he is on the sidelines in his nice little sweat suit. WTF?!?! Hey, at least he came to the game… how many millions did he make for that? So now he can’t play back to back games? Is that part of the whole knee management program? This is getting straight up ridiculous; the longer it lasts, the more shit I’m going to talk. Will he or will he not play? That will be the top storyline of this team, unfortunately, until the madness stops. He’s played 4 out of 7 games thus far… At what point will Zach be well enough to play every game? I’ll hang up and wait…

It sucks that this is the headline grabber for me; there are plenty of other good things going on. DD hit 20K on Friday night in San Antonio, only the 50th player to do so in NBA history; that’s impressive. Good for him. DD just keeps chugging along, doing his thing at a very high level for us. Thank God we have him, somebody we can count on. You know who else we can count on? The other DD. I liked our offseason picks; didn’t love them, but Dragic is a crafty vet, and Drummond is certainly an upgrade over Thompson. Yet, both of these guys have been a lot more than expected thus far. They have some nice little chemistry playing together on the 2nd unit. That has been refreshing. There are good storylines thus far for the Bulls. Beating playoff teams from last year like the Heat and Celtics was a good sign; maybe the Bulls will have a winning record against “good teams” in the East? At least 500… but there are all those other games, and if Zach is sitting in half of them, then… how will that all play out?

OK, I’m just going to be patient. Maybe this whole left knee management will only last for a month or so; maybe Zach will be playing every game before we know it. It’s just… flashbacks man; Derrick Rose’s battles with injuries and his playing status held us hostage for a couple years, with our hopes hanging with every game. Now, we have our new superstar, fresh off his max deal, and again??? Patience, patience… Go Bulls!!!
