Not sure why I’ve never done it in the past. I mean, there have been some times when I have recorded a live game to watch at a later point, but for the last couple Hawks games, I’ve been recording them to watch later that evening. Why now?
The biggest problem in trying to watch a live game later is that you would find out the result before you watch it. That’s why for big games, and really all Bear games, there’s no sense in trying to do this. Yes, I could resist checking the score online and I can stay off Twitter, but what if a text message came flying in. Well, I guess I could talk to my brother and dad to let them know not to text me… Finding out who won the game before I watch the game takes the point out of it. If I knew who won, why would I want to watch the whole game? This is especially true if they lost the game. Why would I want to sit there and watch a game that I knew my team was going to lose? Now if they won the game, then maybe… but still… most of the fun of watching a game live is not knowing who is going to win the game… at least for me that is.
But the last couple Hawks game, including Saturday night’s game vs the Blues, I’ve snuck in under the radar. Put my son to bed at the end of the first period, and press record on the remote… making sure to add extra time. We read books, he goes to sleep, I’m back in front of the TV… watching the Hawks game from the recorded view, which is great because you can watch the whole game in less time. Thinking of it that way, I would like to watch every live game like that; less time committed to it, and still get the enjoyment of watching every minute. So I just fast forwarded through the commercials, then press play to watch the live action, hoping I don’t get a text to ruin it.

Maybe I’m late to this whole thing… wouldn’t be the first time. It’s like, why didn’t I do this more in the past. Well, because there’s other stuff to watch on TV, and my wife certainly does not want to watch a recorded game with me. First off, not sure there’s a whole lot of stuff I’d prefer to watch then my teams in action, and IF we end up watching TV separately that evening, then this is the clear cut choice. If we’re watching something together, if we get into a new show, then maybe this doesn’t happen. This doesn’t work if I can’t watch the game that same evening at some point. It cannot go to the next day.
So yes, I did see the Blues beat the Blackhawks 7-3 on this evening, and because I recorded it and watched it, I know the game was closer than the score. I know it was an injury to the Blues’ starting goalie that seemed to help them play better in the 3rd period. I know they scored 3 of those goals in the last few minutes, including a busted defensive play in front of the net, an empty netter, and a worthless PP goal after Seabrook decided to start some shit. Still, it was fun to watch the whole game. I think I’m going to do this more often for the Blackhawks games… but what about the Bulls games?

Recording, not something I really do for sporting events. With everything so quickly at the fingertips, I can keep up with games and scores from my phone, even when not able to watch. If it something that I truly must miss, so be it. I will catch a score here or there whenever I can and then watch highlights, only when my teams win of course. No sense in watching highlights of a loss. Maybe I should try recording and see how it goes. I like to keep myself from checking fantasy every minute of the day on Sunday to surprise myself later. I guess I could do the same for a game, but it would definitely have to be same day/night. There are some things just not worth recording, and the Bulls fall into that category right now.
