October 27, 2017: Week 8 Bears at Saints

posted in: Bears | 2

Well, well, well…  Our Bears face an important test this week at the Saints.  To be 500 again… to be on the brink of being over 500 again… is sadly, a HUGE deal.  Do you know the last time the Bears were over 500?  I’ll save you the time:  Week 3 of the 2014 season, when they were 2-1.

A little more than 3 years later, being over 500 is in our sites, but that’s getting a bit ahead of ourselves.  First thing’s first, is winning in New Orleans.  Papa Vegas doesn’t think that’s going to happen.  9 point underdogs?!?!  OK.  I like those points…

I like the fact that the Bears are getting no respect, or maybe the Saints are getting too much.  It’s not like the Bears should be getting a lot of respect; I understand that.  But I don’t think the Saints should be getting that much love either.  They barely beat Green Bay with a nobody at QB.

I know, they will be home for our game, which makes all the difference for these indoor teams, but still… I’m not buying a lot of Saints’ stock, not this late in Brees’ career… not with Payton about to be gone.

On the other hand, it’s definitely time to buy low on the Bears.  The defense has been lights out the past 2 weeks, but I’m sure they’re not satisfied.  If they’re thinking like we’re all thinking, this week will be THE test.  I’m sure there has been more than one person say “we’ll see how good they are this week in the superdome.”  That’s just how I like it.

I hope Fangio is pushing that too.  “You guys haven’t done crap yet.  You want to prove something, do it this week against this team.  Then, we’ll start talking.”  I think they will.  I think this will be a closer game than many expect.  I think the Bears can actually win this game.

All the talk about the 7 pass attempts from Mitchell… the Bears didn’t need to pass the ball to win last week, so they didn’t; it’s as simple as that really.  They will need to pass it more than 7 times against the Saints this week to win, at least one would think.  But if they didn’t have to, then why would they?  Let’s go with the preface that they WILL have to pass the ball more than 7 times, and the Saints will score more than 3 points, and the defense will NOT have 2 TDs.  Fine.  I’m good with that.

Love the acquisition of Inman for the WR corps, but he may not play this week…. or will he?  Either way, having Trubisky throw some more is a good thing, in more ways than one.  But I still do love our running game…

So to recap:  don’t think the Saints are that good, I think the defense will have something to prove, and I think Trubisky passing more will be good.  Mix it all together and what do you get?

Final Score Prediction:  Bears 27 Saints 24

Ace in the Hole:  Mit..  no, Jordan Howard OK–>  100+ yds on the ground w/a TD

Watching last week’s game, I felt happier than I have in a long time watching the Bears.  Looking forward to some more of that this Sunday.  Bear Down Baby!!!!

Maybe I was wrong about the Bears…the defense looks really good and motivated. Finally have a QB who is mobile…two cornerstone RBs..one with power and another who cuts the corners. This should be a good game. Saints have a bad defense and that offense is not that high-powered any more.

    Bears 24 Saints 20.
MVP- Jordan Howard & Mitch T combined 175 yards 2TDs
Bears D- at least 5-7 sacks

Well, I would have picked the Bears to win this game as well. I thought MTru would play well and throw for 200+ and 2 td’s, neither of which happened. Howard did run well but surprisingly enough was not given the ball on 3rd or 4th and a yard late in the game when the Bears needed a 1st down to continue the drive…made no sense. The D did get some sacks and turnovers, but it was not enough to beat the average saints. I guess the Bears 3-5 record makes them below average. The viqueens are taking advantage of their schedule thus far, but this division is not out of reach. This would have been a great game to win. At least MTru and the Bears have 2 weeks to get ready for the fudgepack. How sWeet would it be to get a W vs them the first time he plays them? Time to work hard offensively and get healthy during the bye. A 6-2 finish might be enough to win the nfc north. Too much to ask? We shall see. BEAR DOWN!!!
